For all the years that she'd worked for this company, she'd hadn't even known this place had existed. Yes, she'd spent most of her working hours working out of Tony's house, but when she did go to the office it was the one in California. Until becoming CEO, she hadn't even known that there was a branch office elsewhere. Worse, though she wasn't at all surprised, Tony hadn't ever told her about it.
Well, she'd made the most of the situation. She'd managed to make him listen to her for once, and he was on his way to NYC to help her get set up on the east coast. It wasn't so bad, really--things were actually a lot more efficiently run over here than back home.
Today found Pepper in the top floor office, going through the records that had been stored there, and finding some rather interesting things about the company's past, though some were rather disappointingly vague. What, for instance, had Stark Industries been involved with back in World War II? Papa Stark's "report" had been maddeningly devoid of detail.

The buzzer from the reception desk downstairs rang out.
"Ms. Potts? There's a man here to see you- he says it's important-"

Well, that was quick.
"All right, send him in."
She hadn't been expecting anyone to show, not yet. Well, someone not Tony. She'd just gotten here, after all.

He arrived a moment later- perhaps a little too quickly for having come from the ground floor.
"Ms. Potts, I presume?"
((In the comics, Stark actually has a major corporate base in NYC in the place where the Met Life building is in real life. They're also using that in the movie; I'm rolling with that for my mental image here, but if you imagine it differently, don't hesitate to tell me.))

((Yeah, the backstory I'm working from is whatever shows in movies, so that's all I've stuck with. I'm not really that familiar with the comics side of canon.))
How fast were the elevators around here?
"Yes. How can I help you, Mister...?"
He looked vaguely familiar, like she'd seen him in the news recently.

"Ashton," he said vaguely, glancing about the place. "This is bigger than Veidt's, and considerably less tacky. Impressive."

"Thanks?
So what brings you up here, Mr. Ashton?"

**NEW DAY** Pepper had not been idle. It wasn't only that she was busy with her duties as CEO--not a hard transition, seeing as how she'd been doing basically 95% of it when she was still just Stark's assistant--but she'd also been doing a bit of research on the side. Ever since the incident with Vanko in Monte Carlo, she'd been keeping an eye out on media outlets, calling up contacts wherever and whenever she could, anything to figure out who the hell this man was and why he had a grudge. There hadn't been trouble for Tony since Stane, and Pepper had been hoping that for once there could be some peace at Stark Industries (well, relatively speaking, considering whose name was on the building). Today, she'd finally had a payoff for all her hard work--and it was a doozy. Naturally, Tony was nowhere to be found. He'd taken care of what business he still dealt with in New York and then had just vanished. He was probably blocking outside calls on his cell phone. Luckily, Pepper knew the only other person that could possibly get around that. "Jarvis? I need you to do me a favor... "
