She nodded "I used to deal with all that, couldn't drink caffeine because of a bad heart, couldn't smoke had asthma, used to be pudgy" she poked at her stomach, and reminded herself that the only reason she lost the weight was because she was homeless for a year in hiding "got sick, couldn't eat" she smiled "so I can at least sympathize with you. But my stuff just got better, you on the other hand well" she waltzed back over fingers holding her cigarette limply "got a big injection of get better quick."

"That's a simple way of putting it."

Falling back in to the couch, on the side closest to him, she pushed her cigarette between her lips and took a big drag "Ever regret it?"

"Do you always psychoanalyze people you just met?"

"Yes" she smiled and tapped the smoke on a ash tray next to her.

She raised her eyebrows at him, to remind him of her question.

"If you must know, no" he looked up and smiled "it's given me the chance to be the person my ailments and body size never let me be."

"Yes" he responded solidly.
And he meant it.
He had no regrets about becoming Captain America, he'd met so many great people and been a part of something that changed the world. What Captain America had become for the American public wasn't something he'd ever intended, but after his stint as Washington's mascot, he figured it'd be something big. But if he could inspire at least one person to follow their dreams, than he was happy. Than Captain America had really meant something.

She leaned back placing the cigarette back between her lips "You mean a great deal to people you know" she took a small drag and pulled it out, keeping it close "I'm sure you've seen, been told, heard. Do you believe Erskine would be proud of the man you are?"

The mention of Dr. Erskine made Steve's heart fall just a slight, he'd watched him die right in front of him, killed just moments after finally having his dream become a reality.
"He told me, to stay true to the person I was when he met me" he looked out the large windows "I promised him that I would, and I believe that I have. Whether or not I've become the man he thought I was, or would become I'll never know. I can only hope that I've preserved his memory simply by still existing."

"You really are the boy next door Mr. Rogers" she smirked and took another drag, blowing out smoke rings "you really are."

"Tony got lucky" she laughed "you know what, you should come over for dinner some time, bring a date" she stopped "or a friend. I'll have Tony get something catered, I cook, but there really is never any food in this place and I hate grocery shopping."
