"Oh but if you had" she looked at him almost dreamily "you're presence alone might have softened a bit of the blow. I think the states wasn't ready for the cultural revolution that the sixties and seventies brought on, people were tired of lies, or at least what they perceived as lies, being told to them by the government. It got worse with Vietnam of course. But thank god for Dr. Manhattan-"

"Dr. Manhattan? Oh right, the uh scientist who blew himself up- slightly."

"In a way yes, Dr. Manhattan was a scientist who was disintegrated in an Intrinsic Field Subtractor in 1959. Dr. Osterman as he was known back then, was blown in to atoms, nothing was left, a couple weeks later his consciousness seemed to begin to pull itself together. Unbelievable, but if anyone knows anything about amazing feats it'd be you Steve."

"A little" he took a small sip of his drink and set it down "was he another fictional character where you come from?"

"Yes, but here, he actually did end Vietnam. He and another hero by the name of the Comedian, who's still floating around these parts, back in my world he was killed by-" then something happened, Jess couldn't remember who was that actually killed The Comedian in the book, "oh I can't remember."

Steve smiled "I'm sure it'll come back to you."

"Yes..." she took a long gulp of her drink, as she attempted to recall the name of the book, and even the ending, and was realizing she was having trouble even visualizing some of the characters.
"It's been such a long time since I read it, it's not really all that important."

"Of course" it was obvious to Steve, with just a few of Jess's facial reactions that it was in fact bothering her that she couldn't remember.
Professor Xavier explained to him, that there was a small phenomena that seemed to happen in some people that were taken from their timeline and put in to this one, that they would forget integral parts of their past just in case it would upset the balance of this earth
Steve had yet to forget anything, or anything that he knew of.
So that meant, that something about that book had something to do, with something important here.
Steve leaned back slightly to stretch his back and sat back up "How long have you been on this earth?"

"A long time" she laughed "I actually came here on my own, at least, I thought it was on my own. I was traveling the world you see, looking for my muse, trying to be a writer. I wasn't any good. When I decided to head to Paris, somewhere in between heading there and getting there I found myself in this universe. Unlike with some people, like yourself, it wasn't something sudden, it was a seamless transition."
Because you were a sue dummy, that's why.
Were or is, Jess still couldn't really figure that one out.

"Interesting, Professor Xavier said it was different for a lot of people."

"Oh no, but Tony does. Professor Xavier and he keep tabs on each other" she laughed.
