Adrien felt terrible for not having spoken to Dan earlier, having in fact left the country without so much as a goodbye. But he wasn't so wracked with guilt that he couldn't call him. Dan was a great guy, and he was sure to understand. He always understood in the past.

The phone ringing startled Dan awake.
He'd been taking care of some tax information when he realized how tired he was. Seeing as he didn't have a whole lot to do today, it seemed like a nap was in order.
Reaching over he pulled the phone down to his face, clearing his throat softly as he answered "Hello, this is Dan."

"This is Adrien Baillon- Dan? You remember me, right?"

Smiling Dan rubbed the sleep out of his eyes "Of course I remember you Adrien, how are you?"

"I'm well!" He was better than well; he was a starry-eyed mermaid floating on moonlit waves, dreaming of a man on the shore. "Dan, what can you tell me about another hero - 'Captain America'?"

"Captain America?" He laughed "From what I know, he was part of this government experiment called Operation: Rebirth, and was turned in to what they called a "super solider". He was a hero during world war two, fighting the Nazi's and this guy named Johann Shmidt also known as the Red Skull."
He stopped talking for a moment "Why?"

"I met him," said Adrien breathlessly. "Oh, Dan, he's the best, he's smart and kinda funny, and he's sweet, he really listens when you talk... he saved me from a couple of guys harrassing me on the street and it just took off from there- and the thing is - he's just a little bit older than me, Dan! He was born in 1917! Except he didn't just find himself here, he was frozen-"

"Whoa, woah woah!" Dan had to laugh "Frozen? What are you talking about Adrien, he's been dead for over fifty years."

"No, frozen," Adrien insisted. "I was walking down the street, some guys harrassed me, he showed up and saved me and took me to lunch, and a woman recognized him at the diner he took me to, and he told me he was Steve Rogers, Captain America, from the 1940s, and he crashed a plane to save New York and froze. They found his body and revived him and now he's just a fish outta water - just like me!"

Dan stared wide eyed at the wall "Frozen."
It made sense, he'd downed the plane he'd been flying in the Arctic. They hadn't found his body...
"Good god, that's incredible Adrien!" He was excited for Adrien, but the geek in him was bouncing.
CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS ALIVE.

Bemusedly, he said, "So what can you tell me? I mean, I figured if anybody was going to know, it'd be you." SIGH. "And, Adrian, but... well, he and I aren't really speaking. As long as I can help it, anyway."

"Yea, uh right" he laughed "I mean, what do you want to know? What he did? His adventures? I mean, I'll have to pull out a book" he lied, he had the book on his coffee table "but I can tell you anything you need to know."

"Everything! His adventures, who he is, what he's like... oh, Dan, you just can't- I mean, I've never met anybody so..."
Perfect?
"...good, really. I mean, I thought Adrian was good. Well, he tries," said Adrien, trying to be dismissive but with a note of bitterness and teariness creeping into his voice. "But we all know how that works out with him. But Steve, he's- he's really... it's real, with him, he didn't have to analyse it or study it to get that way, he just is. God. Does Adrian know about him too?"

"That's an understatement" Dan said without thinking, then regretted it, although he couldn't be sure why. "Adrian was probably one of his biggest fans when we were younger."

Oh, Christ, that was just depressing. To think he'd just been with one of Adrian's idols telling him what an awful husband he was...
"...well, he certainly didn't live up to the ideal, did he," mumbled Adrien.
