(aka, what Jess and I are calling the 'verse's own superteam. This isn't final, of course.)
So, Jess and I talked, and then I ran some of this by Teja as well, and HERE ARE THE IDEAS AT HAND FOR GETTING THE SUPERTEAM PLOT ROLLING.
PHASE ONE: In the wake of Doctor Manhattan's attack on New York City, the world is starting to pull together again (the desired effect intended by Adrian Veidt, who masterminded the attack as a way of frightening the world into peace). However, this peace has convinced three villains that the planet is theirs for the taking: corrupt businessman Lex Luthor, who simply craves power and the elimination of all non-human sentience; the mad alien demigod Loki, who wants nothing more than to be as loved and admired as his brother Thor but has a toxically warped and dangerous idea of how to do this; and the shapeshifting mutant Mystique, who sees this new world of opportunities as a way for mutantkind to strike back at humanity.
Luthor intends to become president of the United States, and intends on creating the titular Taskforce- a group of metahumans and superheroes- to act as his enforcers once he's in power. He hires a front to act as a recruiter, to convince the heroes they're working for good, unaware himself that his recruiter is Mystique in disguise. Loki, meanwhile, is attempting to win respect under the guise of mayorial hopeful Lukas Ashton, with his revolution-minded but decidedly unvillainous girlfriend Teja by his side, and he and Luthor agree to support one another while mutually planning to double-cross one another.
PHASE TWO will involve Luthor and Loki's victories and Loki revealing himself as a god and attempting world domination, leading Luthor to dispatch Taskforce against Loki's minions (while the heroes themselves don't know they're under his thumb). In PHASE THREE, the good guys will discover who's been using them all along while Mystique reveals herself.
This is a bare skeleton of the proposed plot. The discussed members of Taskforce are:
* Nite Owl (Dan Dreiberg)
* Red Riding Hood (Megan Elness)
* Captain America (Steve Rogers)
* Iron Man (Tony Stark)
* Hatshepsut (Nina Fortner)
Additional heroes who basically end up part of it without being hired:
* Thor (Loki's brother, not so much hired on as "this is my sad crazy little brother, I want to save him" )
* Batman (Bruce Wayne, probably just ends up embroiled in it, if Sarah wants him in at all)
Jess also mentioned having Rogue, and it might be cool to have some more DCs up in here too.
Additionally, there's room for villain teamups too! LOKI NEEDS SOCIOPATHS.
