Full Name: Loki Laufeysson LOKI ODINSSON [Ed. note: the people responsible for entering his name as "Laufeysson" have been sacked. And by sacked I mean frozen.]
Fandom: POTO, original, other (specify)? Thor, filmversebecause I don't know enough about the comics and don't really curr. Trying to compare him to the actual Loki of Norse mythology is an exercise in brain liquefication and is not recommended without alcohol handy.
Age: Probably somewhere in the thousands, but looks vaguely twentysomething.
Height: Uh, tall, I guess?
Build: Very slim
Hair: Black
Eyes: Greenle symbolism, she is so subtle, non?
Nationality: Asgardian. TOTALLY ASGARDIAN and that is totally a nationality shut up
Job: ...ostensibly he's the God of Mischief, but that... doesn't really seem to be how the movieverse works, despite the posters. OH WAIT I remember now HIS JOB IS PAWN IN HIS DAD'S SCHEMES, followed closely by PEEING ON EVERYTHING HIS BROTHER LOVES.
Personality: In the words of the eminent philosopher Hank Hill, "that boy ain't right."
Oh, sure, Loki started off as a perfectly nice little WHAT THE HELL ARE MARVEL!ASGARDIANS ANYWAY, what with the cozy family dynamics and such. Then he grew increasingly jealous of his brother Thor, especially when their father decided to make Thor King of Asgard, and something sort of...
Snapped. A bit.
And, you know, finding out he was adopted from an enemy race didn't help. Nor did falling through dimensions and seeing some deeply unpleasant shit (and some things, and I wouldn't recommend it) on the way down.
In many ways (to get totally meta on this thing), Loki is basically what sue!Megan's inaccurately accused Adrian Veidt of being: a twisted, overgrown little boy who feels like Daddy never loved him enough and now that's everybody's problem. Consumed by envy, a massive complex surrounding being always second best (or at least suspecting he was), and an entitled streak that thinks he deserves ALL THE BONES TO BE THROWN after everything he's been through, Loki has become dangerously capricious and sometimes even gratuitously cruel. He likes to make people his puppets and watch them dance, just to feel like for once he's the one on top, even as he aches with vain hope that one day, the last few months of his life will turn out to have all been a bad dream, that his family are his blood family too and his Allfather really loved him after all and never intended to use him as a pawn.
Tragically, though, Loki's madness prevents him from realizing just how loved and admired he actually was before his fall from grace, or even considering that back in Asgard, they mourn his disappearance.
Life Story: Loki was born as a bastard child of the frost giant Laufey, who abandoned him at birth for being puny and deformed by frost giant standards. He was found, however, by none other than Odin, King of the realm of Asgard, who took pity on the unfortunate baby and glamoured him to look like an Asgardian himself. Odin believed that raising Loki in the Asgardian court, and possibly even marrying him into their nobility at a later time, could help secure peace between the frost giants and Odin's people.
Hence, Loki was raised as brother and playmate to Odin's biological son Thor. The two boys couldn't be more different- Thor was boisterous, reckless and cocky, as well as stocky, blond, and strong, while Loki remained quiet, pensive, dark, and slight of build. While Thor was learning how to throw his weight around, Loki was becoming a powerful sorcerer to make up for his relative lack of physical prowess. Despite his demeanor making him an odd fit among Thor and his friends, Loki was accepted as part of their little group and joined in on their adventures.
But with time, Loki began to secretly resent Thor's effortless charm and skills. When Odin declared Thor his heir, it was enough to drive Loki into letting a frost giant into Asgard to interrupt Thor's coronation. In the aftermath, he manipulated his brother into going into the giants' realm to attack them, thus possibly initiating the ancient war all over again and giving Loki himself a chance at proving his worthiness to Odin.
While his scheme worked- Odin banished Thor to Earth in disgrace- Loki did not get to enjoy it. During the battle, the frost giants' magic struck his hand and revealed his true nature, leading Loki to tearfully confront Odin and call him out on his deception. The ensuing stress caused Odin to collapse into a magical sleep...
And that was where Loki officially "lost it", so to speak.
Declaring himself King of Asgard in his father's absence, Loki embarked on a path toward destroying the frost giant race himself to prove his loyalty and become Odin's favored son, even voyaging to Earth to lie to Thor that Odin was dead from grief at Thor's actions. He didn't reckon on the return of a humbled and now genuinely heroic Thor a few days later, though, who challenged him and begged him to see reason. But Loki was too far gone by this point, and when offered a second chance by Odin himself, he instead threw himself into the void below the now-destroyed Rainbow Bridge linking Earth and Asgard.
The void tore apart what was left of Loki's stability. While still able to present himself as a calm and reasonable sort, all that resentment and self-loathing has shattered him inside, leaving an unpleasant shadow of who he might have been. He knows what he's lost, and now he'd really just rather watch everything burn...
...but at the same time, if he could somehow just be Odin's son again, that would be okay too.
