He'd finally gotten used to wearing heels.
They were stage heels meant to make the person taller, not for show, and if he was to play Adrian Veidt he simply had to be.
He had to be.
In his odd desperation to know everything he could, he managed to come in contact with Veidt's new coffee girl/secretary... thing. She seemed eager to divulge what she could and in fact, slipped him a key to Veidt's apartment.
It seemed not everyone loved the smartest man in the world.
He'd have to lock that away for the more emotional scenes.
Walking past the doorman who unceremoniously tipped his hat with a "good afternoon Mr. Veidt, nice to see you home so early" he made it up to the apartment.
No one said a word.
He turned the key in the lock and moved in, as if it was his own place.
"Delightful."

Goddammit Adrian was supposed to be at work!
Adrien was in the other room with the phone, debating dialling Crowley's number - and Dan's, again, for while Dan was courteous and always seemed to have time for him, he still felt like he was a burden - but slammed it down at this.... intrusion, it felt like.
"You're early!" he called, tone of voice hard to read, though he was actually shaking. He didn't know if it was fury or some other emotion.

Kirk stopped in his tracks.
The accent told him that it was Adrian's husband, Adrien.
He probably should have checked that anyone was home before he broke in.
He didn't say anything.

Peevishly he stormed out, saying, "You could have called first," shooting a glare in his direction on his way to the table where he'd left a pack of cigarettes sitting out next to an ashtray - he was fairly confident Adrian would otherwise confiscate them or something, so he angrily swiped them up.
Then he paused, straightened, and looked Adrian in the face.
It wasn't Adrian.

He stared back for a moment before smiling.
"Adrien yes?" He extended his hand "Kirk Lazarus."

"Oh, yes, I 'ave seen you. You are... ze acteur playing my 'usband."
He approached shyly, still completely floored by a stranger being in his home and having assumed he was Adrian for about thirty seconds, and took his hand. The immediate response was pain - it was hard enough confronting Adrian, it was even worse talking to a method actor imitating him. The timid bewilderment faded into an actual smile as he shook hands with him, though. Kirk had no idea there were marital problems. No one did. And... Kirk had no idea what Adrian had actually just done. It wasn't part of his characterization of the man. Basically, Kirk was playing Adrian as Adrien had originally fallen in love with him. At this point in his marriage, that was almost a comfort. "Do you want some tea?"

"I'd love some" he continued smiling "I was hoping to come and speak with you-" he lied "-to see if I couldn't get an insiders perspective on the man that is Adrian Veidt, and of course to learn more about you."
He watched Adrien, taking in every inch of him, he'd seen him before but it was only a cursory glance, and of course there were pictures, but most of them had been in drag. This was part of Adrian, so now, it was part of Kirk.

Adrien was in what was customary for him - a nice pair of slacks, a nice pair of pumps, and a well-fitting sweater. He hadn't been wearing a lot of makeup recently. He'd been too depressed to feel like he could bother.
"Well, I weel do my best, Meesteur Lazareus," he said, getting up awkwardly to go into the kitchen and put on a kettle of water, taking two cups up for tea. "Adrian watches feelms very rarely, bot I love zem."
Having to compose himself and talk about light subjects with a stranger - reinforcing the notion that Adrian was as good a man as he used to think - was weirdly comforting. It meant he didn't have to think about the facts until he went crazy.

"They're an amazing medium" he replied sitting down "able to tell a story from the perspective of anyone or anything."
Crossing his legs as he watched Adrien moved about the kitchen "What type of films do you enjoy?"

"All types. Old ones best, I suppose." Because I was born in 1920, but you can't know anythng abut that. "Reelee, I weel watch anysing." Once the water was on, he came back, sitting delicately on the couch across from him. Adrian never had company, but his house was set up as though he'd planned to have it often.

"I find the classics, the beginning of film, more able to fully express what it is they are trying to say. Subtlety, although a wonderful tool, is sometimes over used which I believe takes away from the experience."
He brushed a small piece of hair off his forehead "What do you think?"

He chuckled softly "No need to be embarrassed, I sometimes get ahead of myself when it comes to film." He felt the pack of cigarette in his pockets, and had to push down the urge. If he had anyone to convince that he was Adrian Veidt, it was Adrian Veidt's husband.
"So please, tell me about yourself."

"Oh gosh."
What on earth could he tell this guy? And in all honesty, how much did Adrian himself actually know? Now that was an uncomfortable thought.
"Um. Meesteur Lazareus, what sort of a man do you sink my 'usband ees?"

"What kind of man?"
That was a hard question, what he knew was facts. He'd studied personality traits, he'd studied actions, reactions, but it never came to question the type of person he was.
To Kirk, Adrian Veidt was just a man.
In a moment he replied with "Ambitious."
