Being smart, opportunistic, and without the hangups or misconceptions that led humans to overestimate the security of their homes (or whatever this was), Kiba was currently on the roof of the opera house in human form. He was still gaunt-looking, but somewhat less so than he had been several weeks ago. Moreover, he was suspiciously clean for a wolf that had been living outdoors (and suffering a ridiculously long emotional breakdown, to boot), though his hair was still as wild and unkempt as always.
He was currently sitting on the shadier side of the roof--not only to keep from overheating, but to keep people from seeing that his shadow was a wolf. But why was he here, though? And why was he alone and brooding? Well, to put it bluntly, he just didn't give a fuck anymore.
Seriously, even he had no idea what he was doing.
He was too tired to care, anyway.
((OOC: I'M BACK. WITH MOAR ANGST. Jess, you might want to get Helen on this.))

((Woo! So sorry I wasn't about when this all went down.))
Of course she followed him there.
Of course she had to.
What else did she have to occupy her time these days, then searching for Kiba?
Opening the door to the roof slowly, she whispered out his name.

((HOLY FUCK SORRY I TOOK TEN DAYS. I've foolishly decided to do NaNoWriMo in August, and I've been busy getting my worldbuilding addiction out before hell begins.))
He heard her coming, of course. Helen wasn't the heaviest person around, but there was no mistaking her scent or her footsteps. Still, his face brightened a little as he looked in her direction; his broody scowl no longer put an angsty teenager to shame, and he almost (almost) smiled.
"Huh. I didn't hear you following me."

((Bah, don't you even worry about it )) "I was pretty far behind you, I had to guess a lot" she smiled and sat down next to him "What are you doing all the way up here?"

"Nothing." He stretched and shifted a little. The scowl returned, but not because of her; he was mostly annoyed at himself. "I didn't really think this through."

((Sorry for one reason proboards wouldn't let me log on as Helen then I went camping.))
"What do you mean?" She tilted her head to get a better look at him.

((No problem, I've been a bit busy with NaNoWriMo.))
"I'm starting to do stupid things like this more often," he said. "Wandering off without even needing to. And for some reason it makes me feel better."
Little did the wolf know that such a thing was called "alone time."

((Cool beans))
"Oh" she nodded "well sometimes that just means you need some time to yourself, do you- do you want me to leave?"

"No," he said with a resigned huff. "You're here; I might as well stay with you for a while. We can leave if you want, though."

"No" she smiled and crossed her legs, looking out at the Paris skyline "I like it up here."

He plodded over and sat down in her shadow. There was no sense in throwing caution to the wind, even here; he could smell traces of recent scent trails from various directions. "Why do humans like high places so much?"

"I can only answer for me, not the rest of humanity but, I like it up high because I feel like, I can be free, there's no fear of doing something wrong when no one can see me."

((Thread title seemed appropriate enough))
**NEW NIGHT**
Taking down the criminals of Paris, or even the memories of it in Gotham, didn't seem the same anymore. For every one that was caught, there always seemed to be three to spring up in their place. He tried not to brood on that too much, but his long-lasting black mood coupled with the raw anger of Lois disappearing to who-knows-what fate had made of him a rather unpleasant person to be around, hence his staying out as late as possible. Alfred didn't need this.
Some small part of him that vainly wished for a different time brought him to the opera house roof, the place where his whole convoluted life here had started. Where he'd first met Jess. It didn't seem that long ago, but looking back on it, he seemed like a different person then. A lot more cheerful, at least.
The Bat stood, contemplatively, his gaze on the skyline for once a quietly thoughtful one than the active searching of when he was in vigilante mode.

He only turned his head, all caution. The last time they'd talked, well...it'd ended in tears.
"Yes it is."
