"Call me the Doctor! Everyone does, well I can't really say everyone since I haven't met everyone but, the ones I've met do you know." He glanced at the skyline again, "Paris. Ah yes, I thought it was, but it's just good to be sure." He turned back to Micaela, "Neighbors! You can't always worry about what the neighbors think! Well I mean, it's all good in all to be a good neighbor, but if you're going to start worrying about what they think of you over blue boxes..."

She was at a loss, really, for what to say. He was clearly avoiding the question of how and why his blue box was in her courtyard, but frankly she was intrigued, and so she blurted, "Would you like some lunch? If you're going to the Louvre... museum food is so expensive and I was just about to make something for myself..."
She gestured vaguely, then realized she was still holding her copy of the sonnets and put her hand back down.

"Lunch! Lunch sounds excellent, so we're doing lunch are we?" He clapped his hands together, "I always like lunch, lunch is never a bad thing, well, unless it's another creature and it's having you." The Doctor glanced about the courtyard, then his gaze dropped back to her, "Nice courtyard, even if isn't yours, I imagine you come out here a lot, to read and whatnot."

"Um, when it's nice... here, just let me grab my things and we can go up to my flat." Back around the blue box to the patch of green, and she returned, books and papers looking precariously unbalanced. Her keys were in her mouth. "R lrft rt unlrcked," she attempted to enunciate, heading in the direction of a set of stairs. "Frd flrr."

"Fourth floor, splendid," He bounded up the stairs ahead of her, then paused at the landing, "Did you need help with that Micaela?"

She shook her head, and the keys jingled. "Drs hnlcked," but even as she said so the sonnets fell out of the bottom of the pile. "Crp. Rr, cld yyr guh thr?""

"Doors unlocked--oh wait!" He bounded back down and snatched up the book. " The Collected Sonnets of William Shakespeare. Ah, good ol' William," He smiled. "He'd be so proud." He paused, brow knitted as though something had just occurred to him, "Are you reading these?"

She'd managed to open her door with her foot and stumble into the apartment after overbalancing. She threw the books down on the small sofa and spat the keys into her hand, making a face when there was a little more spit than expected.
"Translating, actually. Number 18. I mean, well, it's an assignment, I don't think they can be translated, it's like trying to translate Hugo into English, it's done but it's not done well. Both of them just know the language so well that it doesn't really make sense to--" she coughed. "Babbling. Bad habit. Lunch? I was going to do croque-monsieurs."

The Doctor was thumbing through the book, "No, old Victor would've been so displeased. I remember how irritated he used to get. As far as he was concerned words were diamonds and he was there jeweler." He snapped the book shut abruptly "Or something like that, though I don't think he's the one who actually said that." He spun around "Now then lunch Micaela--and--was there something you wanted to ask?"

She blinked. The apartment was covered in books, and the only clear surface space was the kitchen. Most of the floor was covered: stacks of books, piles of books, open books, notebooks filled with notes about books. And at least four square feet were Hugo: his writings and writings about his writings and writings about him. Shakespeare had ten feet, which was something given it was a studio apartment.
"You've met Victor Hugo?"

"Well of course, good old Victor!" He paused "Not that I'm sure he would've liked my referring to him as good old Victor, he liked to be taken seriously you know, might not think it had the proper tone of respect, rather cranky old soul." His eyes scanned the rows of shelves "Although maybe that's because I nearly dropped his Les Miserables manuscript in the fireplace."

There was a dramatic gasp, just at the very idea of dropping any copy of Les Mis into the fire, let alone the manuscript. "You dropped-- wait what?"
She had cleared one of the chairs at the table, which was admittedly covered in mugs and coffee rings and notes and books on the French Revolution. "Victor Hugo lived in the nineteenth century."

"Yes! I remember, Paris! 1861--Victor seemed a bit under the weather, so I thought I'd build him a cozy fire, nothing like a cozy fire, and a comfy chair, but well--I had to put in some kindling, and there was this big pile of what looked like rubbish--and he--" The Doctor shifted awkwardly and picked up one of the fancier volumes lying on a chair, and flipped it open, "He didn't take too kindly to it."

"... it's 201_," she prompted. She had moved to the kitchen and was rummaging around in her fridge for ideas.

"Yes I know, but that was then, this is now--though it seems like yesterday, though for me it's actually been like, three months?" He replaced the book and moved over to look at another shelf "You lose track of time while traveling."
