Madam,
I have served the N______ family of _____shire in my position as housekeeper for the past eleven years, and would be pleased to provide a reference from the lady of that household. In my previous capacity as lady's maid I was required to be proficient in French, and though I have not been to the Continent in some years, I have faith in my own ability to make adequate (if perhaps overly formal) conversation in the language.
I have a son who is nearly eleven, and should hope to send for him soon after I am situated, if that is agreeable. I am recently widowed, and should prefer to keep him close by.
Regards, Margaret Ahearne

Mrs Ahearne,
Please forward your references, and if you are agreeable, I will be in London for a few weeks starting the _th of _____. I would be most pleased if you could come so we could get better acquainted before I make my decision.
Should you come into our employ, your son is welcome to come with you, and we will give you appropriate rooms. The village school is very good, and my eldest is of a similar age.
I look forward to meeting you in the near future.
Lady Ellen de Winter

To the honourable Lady de Winter,
I would certainly be amenable to a meeting. I can arrange to be in London at any time during your stay when it is most convenient- merely specify the time and place, and I will be glad to be there.
I am extremely grateful for your understanding regarding my son in my current familial situation.
Regards, Margaret Ahearne
P.S. References enclosed.
