((Especially that round one with all the ivy from the show omg))
"And then there's Robert, the youngest. Andrew's bequeathed Manderley to him, because he gets Richmond and I want Wilcombe and can't carry the name on anyway."

Lucrezia stopped walking and frowned.
"That doesn't seem fair," she said, sounding more curious than petulant.

"Well I grew up at Wilcombe, anyway. Manderley has to go to someone in the family, and I think he spent more time there than I ever did anyway."

"I mean, you having to wait on your cousins," she said, getting a bit frustrated. "And your parents' estate has to go to Robert and--"
Realizing she was getting a little too fired up about this, she stopped herself and shyly looked down at her hands.
"I'm sorry. It really isn't my place. I just think the way we women are looked over is unfair sometimes..."

Kat laughed and shook Lucrezia affectionately.
"It's sweet you care. And there are a lot of situations that are unfair, yes. But I have a King's ransom for a dowry and I get my childhood home. I make out pretty well! And trust me, I'm not going to be waiting on anyone, ever."

Lucrezia smiled.
"Is your dowry really that big?" she asked, linking arms with her new friend and whispering animatedly as if she were talking about something utterly scandalous.

"I'd prefer to think of it as a fortune. I might not marry at all."

"Now that would be a great tragedy." Came a voice from around the corner--and following on the heels of that was the owner of the voice himself.
Henry, after being tied up in his office with affairs of state all morning, had gone outside to take a brief respite from his duties before he returned to them. He'd mostly been out here to clear his head, but hearing a very familiar female voice had set him on a different track.
"Of course, I don't mean that fortune would be. A lady should have a means of being provided for."

Kat turned, surprised, but aware of whose voice it was. She immediately bobbed down into a curtsey, graceful as always. "Your Highness."
True to form, she rose with a cheeky smile on her face. "And can a lady not be perfectly capable of providing for herself?"

Lucrezia curtsied low but remained quiet and, as always, observant.

He spared a brief nod for Lucrezia before answering Kat.
"Oh, I have no doubt you'd do well on your own, Milady de Winter. But never being married? Quite a far-reaching decision."

"And who would I marry?" she teased. Her tone was more of a who-would-I-consent-to or a who-could-handle-me than a who-would-take-me.

"Now there's the question." He said, his grin cheeky.
His manner softened and became more gentlemanly when he turned to Lucrezia.
"Forgive my lax manners, my lady, but I don't believe we've been introduced yet. Who may I ask has joined my court?"

Kat immediately fell into court manners, ready to make the proper introduction. "Your Majesty, this is Lucrezia Borgia, lately of Rome, recent addition to our household. Lucrezia, this is His Majesty, King Henry, King of England and France and Lord of Ireland."
She looked to Henry. "I got it right, didn't I?"

Henry bowed, offering Lucrezia his hand.
"Pleased to meet you, my lady. Your family is quite well known to me.
And yes, Lady de Winter, you are correct."
