About an hour after they began setting up camp, Finnbarr bounded in, two rabbits in his mouth. He set them by Ailwen's feet, barking excitedly, and she showed more animation than she had since she was fighting--rubbing his head, grinning, praising him.
It was then that the hound noticed the newcomer, and went to sniff her inquisitively.
"Ah, this is Finnbarr. He's my... dog." Dog didn't even begin to cover it. Her companion, her fellow warrior, her source of food... Finnbarr barked in confirmation.

Setting up camp was a novelty, and staying out with someone not from the Tower just as much so. She didn't let it get in the way of helping, or at least as much help as she could offer. She'd actually started to wonder what they would do about food when the dog appeared.
When Finnbafr came up to sniff her, Maya simply beamed.
"Ohh, a Mabari! I always thought they were so fascinating. Hello, Finnbarr. I'm Maya."

Ailwen smiled a little. Finnbarr licked Maya's hand--it was a mark in Maya's favor, whether she knew it or not. If a dog didn't trust a person, another person sure shouldn't. And Ailwen particularly set quite a bit of store by her dog's opinion.
"Roasted or stew? I think I saw some wild carrots we might put in, and I've got a bit of salt left."
Finnbarr had caught his own dinner, and was now nudging Maya with his nose.

"Hmm...stew sounds good right now."
Smiling, Maya scratched behind Finnbarr's ears.
"And aren't you a handsome dog?"
She spoke to Finnbarr in a normal voice, none of that babytalk that she always thought silly.

"Here, do you remember that stream back there? Fetch some water and I'll get the carrots."
Well, it was admittedly convenient to travel with someone who had opposable thumbs.

Just beyond the campfire, hidden in the shadows cast by the trees a lone figure watched as the new woman made to leave the camp. He hadn't so much been tracking--or following-- the two, so much as he had just found them. He had heard the Grey Warden was around again and couldn't help but stop by and say hello.
With that thought he stepped out to where he could be seen and called out to his old friend, "You really should fortify your camp better,"
Zevran smirked, "Any assassin could just walk in."

Maya had started off toward the stream, but then paused as she thought about the directions to it. She didn't think she had them right, and thinking that it was better safe than sorry, she turned around to double-check with Ailwen.
Seeing the strange, exotic elf, Maya froze in place and then assumed an aggressive stance with her mage's staff.
"Who are you?!"

But Ailwen zoomed by her with an extremely girlish scream and pretty much launched herself at the other elf. It was a good thing she wasn't wearing her armor.
"Zevran!"
It had been months, months, and she'd heard nothing from him. Now here he was, just when she was starting to miss everyone the most.

Zevran laughed as Ailwen threw herself at him, hugging her back with just as much ferocity and joy. He swung her around once before setting her back on her feet with a laugh. "I can see I have been missed! It has been too long since a woman has ran into my arms with such passion, though I suspect this won't end the same way." He shrugged, "Ah well."

She rolled her eyes.
"Haven't changed a bit, then."
Finnbarr was nosing his way in, barking excitedly.

Feeling very foolish, Maya slowly put the magic staff back into it's holder on her back.
"Uh...sorry."

"Zevran, at your service," Zevran interrupted quickly, bowing in front of her with a flourish and a handsome grin, "Quite a few services actually. And who may I ask is this lovely young woman whom I have yet the great pleasure to meet?"

"I was going to say 'trouble,' but same difference."
She turned, figuring Maya could introduce herself.

The foolishness was gone, now, and instead she was a bit redfaced.
"Er--"
This was silly. She'd seen elves before--Ailwen is an elf! Except a girl, which is different. Well, of course that was different! What was she thinking? But she couldn't stop staring.
"I'm, uh, Maya Amel." She finally answered.
