It wasn't always easy being the "heart" of a nation, Eleanor thought in her room. Her husband was loved and feared by the populace ("Steerpike the bastard" they might say, adding fondly "Our bastard, that is.") However he punished a rebellious daughter, it would be considered merciful that he stopped short of public torture. But as Lorien's mother figure, she couldn't quite get away with that sort of open cruelty. They'd have to find some suitable way to punish Eva that didn't paint hem in a bad light. Oh well- the girl was back, which was the important thing, and Eleanor didn't feel particularly sadistic.
"I'd say we spoiled her, but royal children grow up like this all the time without running off. If it's just in her nature, best to get her married and make it her husband's problem."
She smiled at her own husband. Eva had his sharp features, no doubt about that; they could pass for Elves, while she remained markedly human. Still, she was the Queen, and that did set the trends- Elven maidens these days were often cutting their flowing locks short and encouraging curves instead of their traditional adrogynous frames.

"Have you spoken to Elric since they were introduced?"

"Only slightly. He appeared interested. If not him, though, there should be others- she's not entirely undesirable, no matter how hard she tries to make herself."

"...she knows she'll have to endure him for at least a few months, yes?"

"She'd better. One would think he'd at least be better company then her precious graverobber. I do think she's coming around to it."

**NEW DAY**
Slowly but surely, things were being settled.
"It's not a bad match- I'm sure she'll get used to it," said the Queen to her husband.

"I understand it's not unheard-of for women in her position to take lovers if they're dissatisfied."

"Not unheard of."
She grinned at him.
"Though not always necessary. In any case, that'll give her some amount of security. These blasted Elves never seem happy not matter who's on the throne."

"He's not of Lorien, though. That might present a complication in itself-"
