The first thing Amy did was pull the curtains across all the windows. As pretty as the sunrise could be, it wasn't worth the risk.
The rest of the room was acceptable. A bed, a bathroom, a mirror (useless), a closet. She'd lived in poverty before, and had been separated from Raphael before. And so for the life of her, she couldn't understand why she felt like crying.

Scarlett floated about outside, keeping watch. She didn't know how much help she'd be if something nasty happened, but she'd feel bad if she just left, after all the effort she'd made to warn Amy.

Something had to be here; she'd felt it night. It likely wasn't going away.
Amy walked over to the window hesitantly. She supposed there was still a little time before the sun rose...
Drawing back a curtain, she traced one delicate finger across the foggy glass, writing out a sentence.

Scarlett paused when the curtain was drawn back, and her eyes widened as Amy wrote--she hadn't expected that. Still, the girl would expect an answer, and this one at least wouldn't be stilted.
Slowly, the ghost girl wrote back:

So there was someone else.
What do you want?
And then, an afterthought.
Are you lonely?

Want to help.
She had to pause--writing seemed to be the most exhausting thing to do, outside trying to talk to people--before responding to the lonely comment:
Yes.

She would have to close the curtain soon. Amy looked about for a pen and paper, finding neither. Remembering seances she'd heard about, she went over to the bedside table.
"One knock for yes, two for no. Is there danger here?"

Scarlett had actually forgotten that she could do this, but it wouldn't have mattered as it still would have to wait until it occurred to the living.
She knocked once on the table.

She thought of the strange woman who had shown her in, then of the stranger presence of Scarlett herself.
"Is the danger from other spirits?"

The air seemed to almost lean in on Scarlett, and she got the distinct feeling that not just any mortal visitors would be in danger here. She knocked once, again, wondering if it might be just spirits about .
