Destler had taken his time applying the flesh "mask" that night with the intention of attending a performance and going out after, and while his appearance was...uneven, it was passable, and presently, he stalked the catwalks, seeing that things were being put together smoothly--that no more "accidents" were blamed on him by careless scene-shifters and stagehands.
To his annoyance, someone was in his path--which wasn't unusual up here--but they usually moved when they saw him coming. He quickly checked the placement of his various blades and moved foreward, suspicious.

*Julian frowned, distracted a moment by the presence of...another. Someone he could not place but at the same time not completely unfamiliar. That made it all the more off-putting. He spun gracefully to face the half-stranger, his chin lifted and eyes shrewd.*

There was something uncanny about this pretty stranger. Dressed too well to be a scene-shifter, and certainly not one of the managers, unless the place had changed hands again. A subscriber up here on the walks? That would be...irksome. His hand curled around the butt of his whip, under his coachman's jacket and he approached a few steps more.
"Isn't it a bit high up for your tates? The view from the boxes are better."

*Julian arched his brow, intrigued at the nerve of this new person. But then again, not everyone knew his mother. His lips tightened and he spoke softly.*
"I will travel as I like, sir."
*His eyes narrowed, analyzing the man.*
"As I suspect you do as well."

"Your suspicions are correct."
His hand loosened from the whip and came out from his jacket, smoothed up over the loose hair of the mousey wig he wore. He wasn't sure what to make of this man, but he carried with him the same feel--the same...touch of the Devil--that Deslter himself held. Something not altogether...normal.
"Subscribers aren't allowed up here, and you're much better dressed than any scene shifter. I suspect you're not the new Ratcatcher, nor are you with the police. So who are you?"

((Touch of the Devil, that's actually perfect.))
*He wanted to place this man, but it was just out of his reach.*
"I am a friend of the Opera. An intimate friend."
*He took in the whip, but didn't flinch or move to alter his position.*

Destler leaned back against the rail, falsely relaxed.
"Then we have that much in common."
When he grinned, the makeup around the edge of one eye cracked a little.

*Julian's head tilted and he took a small step closer, his voice low.*
"Should I...know you, sir?"
*There was a cold curiosity in his tone.*
"It seems strange that two gentlemen so invested should have never met."

"Oh, I tend to keep to the lower portions of the Opera, when I'm here. But I agree. I've not seen you around before either, and I do find that rather curious."
His own voice was more humored than cold, and the grin did not leave his face. Makeup cracked around the corners of his mouth--the damn heat up here always did a job on the paint!

*Julian's brow found its arch again and his head quirked. He spoke plainly.*
"You're cracking, sir."
*It may have sounded absurd at the time, but to Julian...well it wasn't that odd.*

The grinn dissapeared and he raised a bare hand to his face, feeling the peel of the makeup.
"Damnit" he muttered and turned away a moment, bringing a scarf up from where it rested around his neck and throwing it over half his face.
"Pay no mind to that. Now tell me--what are you doing up here?"

*Julian frowned slightly, but shrugged.*
"It was a quiet place. Why should I not enjoy the solace it offers?"

"Solace? With scene-shifters moving about--half the time with thier hands down thier pants?"
He grumbled, probably more upset that his own little get-away above the stage was occupied than with anything else.

*Julian glanced down the catwalk and back to the man.*
"That particular sight would not inheritantly offend me."
*He lowered his gaze idly.*
"But I assume that it might be upsetting to others."

"Only their ungentlemanly grunting while I'm trying to watch a rehearsal offends me. But they're easily taken off guard, and their worthless hides become suddenly useful."
He grinned again behind the scarf and leaned over the rail.
