Just letting people back home know with this that I'm not dead. I wasn't trying to hurt any of you, but I'm not going to be married off like that.
I'm not even a virgin anymore. Yes, I lost it in a stupid and dangerous way. No, I don't regret it.
And I'm finally making friends out here. Real friends like Meg, not fake ones we want to ally our nation with.
I wish I could have done this without causing pain, but I guess I couldn't.

Really, girl. Do you think any female in this family was a virgin when she got married?

You mean...not even the first time?

Of course not. And your grandmother certainly wasn't.

TOP FIVE REASONS TO MARRY ELRIC
1. Kind of hot, in a freaky sort of way 2. Can take me around the world on adventures 3. Reads a lot- can share books and have good conversations 4. Honest about his drawbacks, wouldn't hide things from me 5. Says he can't love; would be okay with me having affairs
TOP FIVE REASONS NOT TO MARRY ELRIC
1. Killed his last girlfriend 2. Possesses a sentient, soul-eating sword 3. Has lots of enemies who could hurt me 4. Needs lots of medicine to keep him alive and strong; would have to constantly take care of him 5. I don't love him
Still unsure of what to do.

I've agreed to marry Elric. It should probably be more exciting. My parents were lucky to marry people they loved- we can't all be so lucky.
I'm heir to a well-maintained throne, betrothed to a handsome and powerful man, wealthy enough not to worry about necessities or luxuries.
I guess I can't have everything.

My parents are very strange to me sometimes. They're much cleverer than I am, and much more charming. Miss Susan used to say not to envy them since they started out poor and had to be clever and charming to survive. She said she was sure my parents were grateful I didn't have to learn that hard sort of charm or cleverness.
But even so, I wish I could understand them better. My father is always doing something important, but my mother is the only one he talks to about it. And for her part, she is always warm and friendly to me without ever really answering my questions.
I was being fitted for a wedding dress when I asked her what to do when someone doesn't love me. For a moment, I thought what I said had really gotten to her- she was silent for a moment, and then told me that whatever I did, I shouldn't waste years of my life hoping he'd learn to love me. The next thing I knew, she was being cheerful again, saying no one of my station stops at one husband anyway.
She won't talk to me about it anymore. I feel so horribly alone in this court.

Thanks, Meg- things really aren't as bad as I make them sound. How have you been? I haven't seen you in ages.

Johan has been giving me lessons in German for... well, you know why, and you of all people understand it. Sometimes I do worry that I exhaust him- I don't know how good his health is.
