Daniel shrugged.
"I wouldn't even guess how the ancient ones think. For all I know, they'd like you."
Although, if he was entirely honest, Daniel found the thought of anything like him being so old and powerful frightening. Mostly because he knew what he would do with such power.

Louis raised his eyebrows in disbelief.
"I highly doubt that, but the thought is nice" he smiled.
A scent of a young woman that passed filled his nostrils and he swallowed tightly, feeling slightly lightheaded.

"Never know until you try."
The human passing by didn't escape his notice, though his reaction was a lot different than Louis'. He attention was completely diverted.
"Of course, no matter where you go, some things are always the same."
Oh, and she was alone, too. That just it made it better.

"Daniel, leave her" Louis sounded more annoyed than anything "for my sake."
He wouldn't, Louis didn't delude himself of that fact.

Daniel rolled his eyes.
"I'm not going to eat rats. So you might as well not bother."

Louis chuckled "As one shouldn't, but it wouldn't be me if I didn't bother Daniel."

"No, it wouldn't, would it? I'd think something was wrong if you'd said anything else about it."

Louis smiled and suddenly felt incredibly lonely.
He'd send a message to Alex.
Maybe it wasn't too late to send for him.

Daniel tilted his head to one side, giving Louis a curious look. In one of his rare moments of empathy, he'd faintly picked up the other's lower spirits.
"Something wrong?"

He turned his head to Daniel slowly, only barely hearing him and smiled "It can be lonely, this life, can it not?"

"Not for me. Though I don't doubt it can be for others. Is that what you're thinking of? That you're lonely?"
Daniel was not surprised. Of all the vampires he'd known, Louis was the most like a human. Even Alex, whose behavior also made him roll his eyes, wasn't nearly as much like one as Louis. Daniel supposed this was the only reason why he still spoke to the man, despite Louis annoying him at times--he'd never met another bloodsucker like him.

Louis smiled "Tends to happen from time to time, but I can't remember a time when I didn't feel like that. No wife, no lover, well-" he raised his eyebrows in a way that basically said Lestat "-and now I've basically run from the most human contact I've ever had to be alone in London."
He laughed, leaning his back against the light pole and looked up "So what right do I have to complain?"

Daniel nodded.
"Yes, that'd definitely leave you alone.
Why did you leave Paris anyway?"

"Paris is Lestat" he sighed, neglecting to mention it was Alex who's idea it was "my home was Lestat, he's dead but he lingers there."

Daniel made a face at the mention of Lestat.
"I can see why you'd want to get away from there."
