"How did you come to be here with such an ordinary upbringing? It's been my experience that most people involved with the Opera have had rather extraordinary lives. Or were you hoping to find your extraordinary life here?"

"My parents died. I suppose I've always been ordinary."
*She shook her head.*
"I haven't known otherwise."

"Oh."
She tapped the end of her pen on a nearby shelf distractedly. This was the second time in as many days that she'd asked what she'd assumed was a friendly question and gotten an unexpectedly depressing answer.
"I'm sorry." And she was sorry, though she couldn't quite keep the tone of someone clearly attempting to drop the subject out of her voice.

"It is fine."
*Diamanta returned her attention to the clothing. She began to form a mothball eaten pile which, on discovering a certain full wardrobe began to grow swiftly.*

They continued their work in silence for several more minutes. Vienna stood with her back to Diamanta, knawing on the inside of her cheek. The girl didn't seem inclined to banter, which put something of a cramp in Vienna's usual conversational style.
She tried a different tactic. "Have you seen the current opera yet?"

"No"
*Diamanta winced as she pulled out a cobweb.*
"But I heard a tenor screaming at the managers earlier so I assume it is going brilliantly."

Vienna laughed as she began hanging up some heavy gowns, having finally finished writing down descriptions of everything and now beginning the cleanup process.
"It's actually going very well, from what I've heard. I haven't had a chance to see it yet myself, but I know the composer."

"Do you?"
*Diamanta looked over to her.*
"Is he from around here then?"

She shook her head and a few red curls came loose. "No, we're both from Austria."

*Diamanta looked at her interestedly.*
"Really?, I would love to see Austria."
((Because in Salzburg they have awesome doughnut things. And it might as well be called Mozartburg.))

"It's a beautiful country. I was lucky to see a lot of it in my travels."
((So I've heard. I would love to go to Austria, it sounds amazing.))

((It is lovely. I've been quite a few times now.))
"You've travelled a lot then?"
*Diamanta's eyes misted over.*
"How wonderful."

((Lucky you! I've never been anywhere near it.))
Vienna shrugged and tucked the loose strands behind her ear. "I suppose. Not all over the world or anything, but the areas surrounding Austria. Hungary, Italy, Germany. France, obviously. And I've been all over Austria. I travelled wherever there was an opera company that wanted me."
She considered asking Dia what places she'd been to, but then she remembered Dia's life had been ordinary. She wasn't very used to talking with ordinary people.

"I would love to have done that. Still, I have time."
*She finished pulling everything out of the cupboard.*
"And"
*She sneezed.*
"My health."
((I realise she is basically Belle. Oh dear.))
