"Do you need any help?"
Well, now he was a bit panicky, as frankly he had no idea what to do for someone who was choking on water.

He shook his head and finally took a breath that did not make him splutter. His cheeks were very red. "....you won by a considerable margin."

"Well it's no fun winning if your opponent nearly chokes." This was not accusatory (why-were-you-so-stupid-as-to-stay-under-you-ninny), rather genuinely worried.

"That's good I suppose. I'd rather you not gloat about it. Your face would stay that way, probably, and I'd have to explain it to your mother."

"You've never heard someone say that if you keep making an unpleasant face, it will become stuck that way? I was told that all the time when I was a child. I used to sulk terribly. I stopped doing that after I heard it."

"Well, as far as scolding goes. It would be terrible to get stuck skulking forever. Nobody would ever want to talk to you."

"That's true, isn't it? People make such a lot of awful fuss about deformities when really normal-looking people look worse when they skulk. I would sooner bring to a dance a freak of any kind than a constantly broody person. I shouldn't want to be seen with one."

"Evidently brooding on cliffsides is part of the package at Manderley. I'll make a very bad master of the house; I'm terrible at brooding."

"You might lose the house but you've gained a friend; isn't that something?"

He smiled, then looked at his hands and frowned as he realized they were getting a bit pruny.

Sebastian caught this and with a splash his own shot out of the water.
"...I'm getting out."

Andrew did the same and grabbed a towel, teeth chattering not because the night air was particularly cold, but because generally one always started getting chilly by the time one pruned. With his hair plastered to his face, he looked like a wet puppy.
