Adrian was silent for a long moment.
"I have, though the circumstances seemed rather unusual. She was progressing at a high rate, after all, at around that time. She never teleported without clothes."
The uncomfortable proximity of the concepts of instantaneous teleportation and nudity had certain implications here.

"Could it have been an accident, maybe caused by stress, something unstable within her that you, overlooked?"
Dan raised both of his eyebrows and refilling his wine glass, drinking it half way again, they were definitely taking a taxi home.

"I had her monitored and provided with whatever she conceivably could want," Adrian replied.
A member of his staff set a plate before him that contained three small piles of presumable foodstuffs that did not really resemble anything animal or vegetable. He ate a small amount of each, and when his mouth was clear again, he shrugged lightly.
"Perhaps that was not enough."

Dan looked down at Adrian's plate and for a moment, although his mind was far from thoughts such as this one, he wandered to a place that thought that maybe... Adrian was an Alien.
Shaking this out of his head he blinked "Look, all I'm saying is that even for Largo, a kidnapping in a corporate business, even during off hours, it's just not his style. And I know that Micaela and your relationship was... slightly strained at times, and she could get worked up so easy, you just can't remove the possibility of something like that happening. Especially with someone like her, Manhattan wasn't always as stable as he is now."

Megan made a sudden, uncomfortable squeak of a noise and dropped her fork, staring at her hand.
Her palm appeared to be on fire.

Shaken from his thoughts of Micaela, Adrian jumped up, grabbed her hand, and thrust it into the pitcher of ice water sitting on the table.

Dan stared at them in supreme confusion, before chuckling, then laughing.
How much worse could the night get?
Oh he knew, Megan could catch the whole table on fire and Dan would loose an eyeball. He was sure that could make it worse.
"Er, I guess I never mentioned that Megan here, well, why don't you show him, hrm?"

Adrian stared at her for a moment, flicking his hair from his eyes when it fell in.
"You mean to say this was normal for you?"

"I learned it from a book," Megan said flatly.

"I see. Did the book in question ever tell you how to control these impulses?"

"Sometimes it happens like this when I'm upset," Megan muttered. "It didn't always- it's probably just the unpredictability of the type of magic involved."

Dan sipped on his wine, before looking down at his food and finding that he wasn't as hungry as he thought.
The conversation had turned his stomach a bit.
"Last week she burned a bag of popcorn, charcoal and a movie isn't the most delicious thing I'll tell you."

"Magic has always seemed to me a very chaotic force. Science and logic produce recognized results, at least in the layman's usage of them. Magic produces nothing but chance," Adrian declared. "It's far too easy to overestimate one's understanding of how magic works and end with horrifyingly unexpected results. Are you all right?"

"It doesn't hurt me," Megan said sheepishly. "Um, look, may I be excused to calm down, please?"

Dan looked up with red cheeks, the wine was working faster than he expected. He'd forgotten how much of a lightweight he was "Go on out to the lobby, Megan, catch your breath, then come on back in when you're ready."
