Megan looked at the glass.
"No, thank you."

"Could ease you up a bit, you seem terribly tense, no? No matter." walking back to his desk, the bar went back in to the wall "Now if you would allow me, can we start over?"

"I'll answer your questions, if it smooths the road a little," said Megan.
Oh hell. I've just pulled a Silence of the Lambs in reverse.

"I'm afraid you've all ready answered anything I'd like to ask" which was a lie, but he was starting to get the impression that she wasn't going to tell him the truth either. So he gave up on it, for now.
"Lets get back to what you came here for, the land development, as I've all ready told you, I'm only here to help. I'm here to make sure that everything stays within standards set by the local government. I was given the go ahead with my office building, which is built a top an all ready pre-existing tower, the city planners only allowed me this so that my building be a shining example of what Paris could become if they embrace the technological age."
He sipped his drink again and made a small face before continuing.
"But if they don't, then it is no skin off of my back. I still will build their homes to keep with the atmosphere, I will stay until every Parisian has a home, or at least a place to stay, I will help them. Because no one else is."

"So you give them homes to live in, places to stay, but no way of improving their situation beyond that. There are still a lot of people left homeless by the revolution, you know."
She paused and took a breath.
"You grew up in the slums, Mr. Luthor. You ought to know that a roof over one's head isn't enough to solve all of one's problems."

This struck a nerve, although he didn't show it.
A slight twitch in his smile was all that could be seen of the inner struggle to keep control over a violent temper.
"This may be true, but it's a start is it not?"

"When Mr. Stark has been providing inner-city schools all over America with computer technology, Mr. Veidt's building wells and schools in impoverished parts of South Africa and Mr. Wayne funds several free health clinics and rehab centers back in Gotham? You're not providing any motivation or education. You're just building the Pruitt-Igoe of Paris and calling that your good deed for the decade."

"Yet you ignore all of my non profit organizations in the U.S" he shook his head "again you must do you're research. First off my Change for Change organization, has been donating millions of dollars every year to childrenss hospitals for over ten years, the money it makes I triple. Last year, the gross national profit was over 2 million, I tripled that and donated six million dollars."
"Luthor's Kids has been giving money to help rebuild parks and schools all over the United States for almost five years now, and you're telling me that I'm not helping. Building is only the beginning, first you give the man the fish, then you teach him how to. Because no man can work starving."

Megan gaped for a second. Fuckdammit.
"In the US," she conceded.

"Yes mam, and I have plans of bringing those organizations here as well. We've all ready begun expanding in to China and Europe."

"Well," she said, and she meant it genuinely, not as a way of devaluing it, "good luck getting it into China. They're not likely to be all that cooperative with the West right now- particularly not with capitalists."

"It will be a long process, but years of good business with them has helped me at least get our foot in the door."
He smiled "And you're sure you don't want a drink, I can get you coffee, tea, water, anything you want."

"Their leadership is notoriously restrictive. I'm just surprised you've done business with them at all- unless you mean Hong Kong."
