Ironically, breaking into Dan's flat to eat a cold can of beans in his kitchen, without fully removing his mask, was actually a sign of friendship on Rorschach's part. Even though finding an intruder in one's home is generally cause for panic.
Which, while Rorschach would understand the notion in the blackest and most white terms - that is to say, a moral degenerate in the home of an upstanding American - was not something he would really get with Dan if Dan had ever tried to explain it. On a personal level, either. Rorschach had never had anything he'd felt of as home, and Dan's NY basement might have been the closest thing, which wasn't saying a lot.

Coming home from, wherever it was that he went to, Dan noticed only that once again, the lock was broken expertly, and although he all ready knew how it happened he was on his guard as he came in to his kitchen.
The scene was something he'd seen so many times before, that he simply exhaled and placed his mail on the kitchen counter "Rorschach, what brings you here?"

Rorschach's response was in the usual voice, although for once it wasn't muffled, aside from speaking around beans. He sounded almost contemplative, for Rorschach.
"Landlady evicted," he said. "Didn't take rent. Just passing through. Hope you don't mind."
He didn't sound upset about the eviction, or even surprised. Nor did he sound apologetic or concerned about passing through Dan's kitchen as he contemplated where to spend the night.

"Of, of course not" he smiled "do you know where you're going to stay tonight?"

He briefly breathed out in a thoughtful hurm noise. "Park, maybe."

"Uh, well, you could stay downstairs if you want... Megan's got the guest bedroom..."

Speaking of Megan, it was at around this moment that she wandered into the kitchen in her nightgown, carrying an empty water glass that she'd come down to refill.
She could hear that there was someone else in the kitchen with Dan, but what she wasn't expecting was the smell, which brought back memories of years riding the bus and having to use the public library's computer lab- public amenities that tended to be filled with the homeless and the damaged, who often had no opportunity to bathe.
Megan peered around the threshold and saw a small, stooped figure in a trenchcoat sitting at the table, and the condition of his clothes confirmed her suspicions. Dan didn't look alarmed, though, so this must've been Dan playing Good Samaritan again.
"Um, don't mind me," she began sheepishly as she edged into the room. "I'm just here to get some water-"
Megan stopped as soon as she'd come in enough to see the visitor properly. Her first impression was that under the battered fedora hat, his head was wrapped entirely in bloodstained bandages, down to the top of a thin, chapped mouth. Once the shock had hit, though, it was suddenly plain that the marks weren't bloodstained, only spattered with ink or black paint or something, except the blots were moving...
Oh. She knew who this was. She'd seen him in Dan's scrapbooks. Dan had mentioned him.
"Um, hello," she said, a little feebly. "I'm Megan. Dan's roommate. You must be Rorschach."

In all the many years, years which had not been kind to Rorschach, that he had been showing up at Daniel's in the dead of night, this had never happened. Never had their conversation, which had just taken a slightly more contemplative turn on Rorschach's part as he had hesitated to pause and think of an answer to that offer, which had at first made him bristle warily and then made him realize that Daniel was a friend, and automatic rejection would not be taking that into account - never had their conversation been interrupted before, and much less by the entrance of a tall fleshy female with bobbed hair shuffling into the room.
The effect was not unlike that of a small dog, rescued from a shelter, suddenly going as feral and stiff as before at the entrance of a human that it does not recognize.
The bean can fell on the floor and Rorschach felt the sharp end of the kitchen counter pressing into his back, and he immediately went to tug the mask down with a sort of growl.
"Who is Megan, Daniel?"

"I'm just staying here, we're just friends-" Megan protested lamely.

Dan closed his eyes for a moment "Megan's a very good friend of mine, she came here because she had no where else to go. I offered her my guest room and she's been here ever since. She's been helping me get all my gear back in to shape, as well as myself, thus why you've probably seen Archie running around the city these past couple weeks."
He took a step forward between Megan and Rorschach, just in case the tiny vigilante went wild, he was sure he'd never hurt Megan... as long as Dan was around.

"Huhn. A friend," growled Rorschach, with a certain grunting emphasis on the word that could either sound betrayed because Dan had invested time in a romantic relationship, or simply because he had gotten a new friend involved in what had once been their partnership.

"Yes a friend" he sighed "and nothing more than that."

He stilled looked completely affronted and betrayed that Daniel even had friends that weren't him, and introduced them to their private life.

"I sleep in a separate room," Megan said meekly. "And I patrolled once-"
