"Well, then break the door down," she said simply, entirely serious.

He chuckled "They'd probably piss their collective pants and fire me." He shrugged "Not that I don't wanna get out of here, just happens there ain't much work for a cowboy in this city."
((I just realized something, my characters actually go to work, like I mean, a lot of characters on the verse have jobs, but never actually work. Mine actually have plots involving work. There's gotta be a psychological reason for that. I mean I get why they're all alcoholics, I mean my father was an alcoholic and I had an issue with alcoholic abuse, which was more a self control thing. I've since moved on to another self control addiction. I don't know why I'm typing this out here, I should stop now.))

"I bet they wouldn't make you go. You're the only one that does anything around here--if you were forced to leave, they'd have nothing. But, I don't know them as well as their employees do, so I am probably off the mark here."
((Huh...I think the only ones I've really showed at their job was Bruce and Laszlo--and for Bruce, I mean not just as Batman but him actually working on stuff in his office.
But then, writing about work is kinda boring, for me.))

"They're two english knuckleheads" he shook his head and knelt down to test the concrete he'd just laid "ain't got a bone in their body that ain't shakin most of the time. Ah, it don matter really, just blowin off some steam, you mind handin me that rake lookin thing over there?" He pointed toward a long yellow pole, with what looked like a door flap on the bottom of it.))
((Oh no it is boring, but I figure, now that I've had a little time to think about it, I figure it's because I've always had terrible jobs. And especially now that I'm loosing mine, a fictional one that isn't quite as terrible, where the character or me as it were, was responsible for everything and the company couldn't deal without me. I.E. Snape becoming the headmaster, Jesse doing everything, my sue!self immediately being sent on assignment. It's all just wishful thinking, I think.))

"I could talk to them for you," she said, smiling a little as she went over and retrieved the item he asked for.
"I would offer to help you, but I've never done anything like this before and I'd probably get in the way."
((Awww. To be honest, it's not so boring now, having been jobless like I have for so long, I realize that NO JOB is boring, too. XD))

"Ain't nothin but a thang" he said with a smile "just pourin concrete in these holes" it was of course more complicated than just that, but Jesse didn't much care for explaining things, so he'd leave it at that.
"It's all right, the longer I'm here the more money I make, the more money I make the more food I buy, the more food I buy the healthier my baby stays."

((You know it'd be interesting to start this mystery or something with the Managers actually being missing...like, nobody can talk to them because they aren't anywhere to be found.))
Michelle shook her head.
"Oh, but I think I could convince them...but I'll leave it alone.
I don't think I'd be much help, to be honest. No that I'm not used to hard work, but it's not this sort."
Usually, the only thing she had to lift was herself, over the edges of roofs or other such things.

((That would be kinda awesome, I mean a while back Megan and I were talking about having some members of the verse being pulled in to like a Clue plot. Being invited to a mansion or the opera house for a big dinner, then having the host murdered, then the guests get locked in and the guests having to figure out what to do. Of course in the end we got side tracked and said it should be Captain Murphy, he won't be dead and everyone will be sent home with a plate of enchiladas.))
"S'all right miss" Jesse leaned back and removed his hat, setting it aside "don you worry about little ol' me. That an I wouldn' ask someone I just met to start fillin in holes of a roof, ain't right you know?"

"Oh, it makes sense. Especially since you don't want someone who wouldn't know the work well. I could just keep an eye out, I suppose."
It was broad daylight, though, and the things she normally kept watch for usually didn't show up during this hour.
((Well, not a Clue like mystery, but just something that gets several characters involved. I always wanted to try a mystery-type thing where only one person actually knows the story and everybody else pieces it together.))

"That," she said, sitting down on one of the unbroken bits of statuary, "I can certainly do."

((Also I am totally up for that idea actually))
He chuckled "So Michelle what is it that you do for a livin?" He knew for everyone in this town it was a loaded question, but he tried anyway.

She paused before answering, wondering what to tell him exactly. It was always hard to gauge what sort of things any given citizen had experienced. Some had fairly mundane lives. Others had seen and done things that were beyond even Michelle's adventures.
"I'm a bouncer for the Trompe L'oeil. I don't know how that place got that name, but most bars seem to have strange names as a rule."

"I've been there" he nodded "but not in a long while, s'allright place, you been there long?" He asked as he began to smooth out the concrete in the hole.

"Not very long. I almost wasn't hired because I'm a girl." This last, she said with a roll of her eyes.
"But they changed their minds when a fool started trouble while I was there."
