"Have you seen Japanese merchandise? They have Bubastis hoodies and Adrian's face plastered in neon paint onto t-shirts. It's god-damn adorable is what." He was grinning hugely.

"Oh I know, I actually have a Bubastis hoodie, a friend from Japan sent me one, he thought it was neat, he didn't know she actually existed."

"Oh, I am so jealous!" he exclaimed excitedly. "I do want one myself but I haven't been to Tokyo."

"Actually, if you want, you can have it" he smiled "I never wear it, I brought it with me, because I thought the building was going to be colder than it actually is."

"Adrian would never tolerate being cold," he said, still beaming, but now in a more subdued fashion, made shy by Dan's offer. "Even in Antartica."

"Well he's got the money for it" Dan smiled with quick lift of his eyebrows "but I'm serious... I mean, it's not like we know each other or anything, in fact" Dan turned to him with a calm smile "I don't know anything about you."

He thought 'we' meant Dan and Adrian and was therefore flabbergasted when Dan addressed Adrien. It seemed like a non sequitur, and besides, how could Dan not know Adrian?
"Well, well, that's not surprising," he sort of stammered.

Dan nodded "Sorry, sometimes I don't say things as well as I could-"

"Oh, no, it's me, it's me, sometime I don't get them - "
He broke off.
"Look at us, like old church ladies," he said, shaking his head. "You'd think everybody congregating at Karnak would be, I don't know, sophisticated or something."

"Sophistication is highly overrated."

"I bet Adrian rates it highly. But you wouldn't tell from the ragtag lot of us drifting around the place."
He sounded like he thought it was funny.

Taking off his glasses he began to clean them "This is true" he said, as he breathed on to the lenses. "So tell me, how did you end up in Adrian's inner circle? I mean I know your Micaela's assistant but, I mean were you working for him before or after the assassination attempt?"
Dan tried to string together three questions in to one and completely failed, he hoped that Adrien understood what he was trying to ask. To tell the truth, he hadn't really paid too much attention to Adrian at dinner or when he introduced Megan and him to Adrien. He was still just a little overwhelmed by the place.

Adrien only looked just a little flushed, but was still smiling. He didn't tend to take questions personally or get offended or embarrassed all that easily.
"I crashed Micaela's birthday party," he said, actually with a faint hint of pride to his voice. "And he decided to hire me so I wouldn't be on the street."

Dan chuckled softly, it wasn't exactly Adrian's style to hire help from those not qualified. But he figured that the boy must have some sort of talent in order for Adrian to keep him around.
"Micaela's birthday party huh? I was there, well, you probably didn't see me as I was sitting on my ass the entire time trying to stay out of the way."

"Haha, I made up a story about working for a newspaper and walked around and talked to the guests, and they all pretended to believe me - probably in case I wasn't lying, so they wouldn't sound like they'd never heard of me." Adrien stretched out on the couch. "He knew I was lying, of course, right away. But he said I was clever." He still looked incredibly proud, and also a mild bit bashful. "So he gave me a job."
