Salomé tapped her fingers against his stomach as though disapproving. "Gee, man, are you old-fashioned. I've had plenty of close friends before."

Nathan's fear began to sour, turning into plain annoyance. His breathing normal once more, he tried to inch away once again. Most probably failing, but it felt like he'd gone half a mile.
"Richard and I aren't lovers," he said with a frown. "At best, we're business partners." Yes. Business partners in the business of sin and blood and fire. It was fitting. "At worst, friends." There was the slightest fear still that she would push and push and push and he would tell. He would tell everything. The contract, the fires, the theft, the boy. The fact that Richard had only been fair bit a few times. Not enough to fulfill his side of the bargain.
And he was still uncomfortable. Her this close. It wasn't right.

Salomé came down on him heavily, resting her folded arms on his bare chest, her stomach touching his side. He'd be unable to not smell her perfume.
"You poor thing," she said softly, with an expression of perfect sorrow and sympathy on her face, stroking his cheek in an almost sisterly way, her own utter fascination concealed. "Doesn't he reciprocate at all? I don't at all see why - I mean you're not bad-looking - "

The least he could say: at least she smelled good. But there would be questions asked. There was no doubt about it that he would now smell of her. Was that her little plan? To keep him locked up until there would be no doubt in anyone's mind that there had been . .. interesting things occurring? Fuck.
Nathan looked at her, trying to find a motive for the umpteenth time. The thought interrupted by a sudden twist of his stomach. That was incredibly unpleasant. By the time it was done, he wasn't quite sure what he had been doing to begin with. Then he remembered. Annoyance. Babe was annoyed. "Can you just stop it?" he asked, unable to move. "Just . . Just shut up?"

Salomé backhanded him, swiftly and imperiously, without a second thought. Even bent over, her posture became suddenly, almost incongruously regal, and there was no trace of the act she'd been putting on.
"'Just shut up?'" she repeated in disbelief, subtly furious. His casual, callous words sounded more formal issued from her mouth. "Let me remind you, Babe, that you are tied down. At my mercy. Don't you think that you should ensure that I still have some? You are bound, half-dressed, and no one is coming in here to free you. Should I tell you the different things I could do to you, or would you rather imagine them?"

Nathan didn't have a chance. Even if he had known minutes in advance that she was going to hit him, he couldn't have predicted the moment when Salome snapped. To him, it was as if she were the coy, teasing girl one second and then . . Then, she was something else entirely. Darker. Like a new moon, any trace of what he had know but a short time ago seemed gone.
But her words sunk in, dribbling through his now stunned consciousness like tiny droplets of water. His reply was clear, staring straight ahead but obviously not looking at anything as his mind came up with a few uncomfortable . . No. Terrifying answers. He had thought before, for a fleeting moment, that she and Richard were of the same breed and they were. She would do anything and that fact made Babe feel terribly, terribly cold.
"I apologize," he whispered, a bit hoarse for reasons he could not fathom.

"Good. Tell me something about Richard and perhaps I will not tighten those knots enough to chafe your wrists such that he will ask you humiliating questions later."
She was not altogether that interested in Richard, to be honest; the fact that his roommate was the most important thing in the world to him was the only interesting thing about Nathan that had so far been revealed. But she knew Nathan did not desire to speak of him, and his fear and discomfort had their own merits, although the information itself was not of much value.

Nathan blinked. Something about Richard? What was that supposed to mean? It could mean anything . . . From his favorite foods to his classes at university. . . There was a world of Richard that Nathan belonged to. He could say anything. He took a deep breath and looked up. "He's. . . He's wanting to go into law."
A thought occurred. It was a tiny one, but Nathan put it into words as he was thinking it. "If you were to do so, Richard would most probably believe I had been arrested rather than tied up." That would lead to more violent questions than humiliating. Richard knew that Nathan had the possibility of telling. That was not good. Well, that and the fact that he didn't honestly want the chance that Richard could ask the awful questions.
He was going to need another drink after this was all up and done with, that was for sure.

Salomé very calmly reached over and pulled one of the strings around his wrist more tightly in a rough though precise manner.
"I find the idea of provoking a lover's spat to be small consolation for the evening you are wasting, but it is a consolation nonetheless," said Salomé in a displeased voice that could almost have belonged to a young girl.

For that moment, her presence was overpowering. The woman's scent filled his nose . . Along with her bosom. For that moment, she was like every girl in the world and he could allow himself to be attracted to her. She was absolutely, positively wonderful. All for the moment that he did not have to look at her face.
In that moment, he also gained an ounce of stupidity. "I'm telling you," Babe said softly. "We are not lovers." But her words also brought another thing: hope. It was still the evening. He had gone into the club at about eight, perhaps nine. He did not know, but he guessed that perhaps he hadn't been gone from the apartment. Perhaps Richard wouldn't even notice him gone! He smiled at this, much more widely than he had a right to.

"This is boring," said Salomé hotly, rather suddenly, sounding as petulant as any diva might. She crossed one leg over Nathan and then the other (no intention whatsoever to tease him or make him suppose she might be about to straddle him - although from the looks of this one that wouldn't have been fun anyway; he'd have likely began to freak before he started to enjoy himself), sitting on the edge of the bed and folding her arms and sulking. She tossed her hair, turned her head over her shoulder, and gave him a fiery look.
"At least that not-lover of yours sounds appealing," she said, bluntly. "Perhaps I will lure him away from you some day."
It was the only little stab she could think of in her state. She smoothed her clothes down, stood, and walked away.
In a moment she came back with a syringe full of liquid. She tapped the air bubbles out of it, stuck it in his arm, and injected him with it.
When Nathan came to, he would be decidedly elsewhere and decidedly shirtless.
