"Your eyes are going to be terribly swollen," he chided softly.

They opened just a little and he smiled, but it was almost reproachful.
"Well," he said.

Adrian kissed him between the brows.

His brows furrowed and he sniffled quietly, shoulders hunching slightly.

"That was a very foolish thing you did today," Adrian continued, "even if I did react poorly. In the future, you will give more thought to your actions."
It was not a gentle scold, or even a true command. He had said it and now trusted that it would be true.

Adrien nodded, almost painfully shyly, looking down.

He finished wiping away what was left of Adrien's tear-streaked makeup and paused, looking down at him.
"Can I leave you again for only a few seconds?"

Adrien froze in fear initially, clinging to Adrian's arm although only with his fingertips, so that he was barely touching him, really, despite the tension in his hands. But this was only for a moment, and then he looked at Adrian and held his gaze.
"Can I come out of the bathroom now?" he said in a soft and agonized tone of voice.

The look in Adrien's eyes crushed something inside him. He had totally broken this boy.
"...yes," he said slowly. "Yes, if you'll give me a moment to lock the door to the office-"

"Ohgod."
It was barely voiced, only a little bit of air in unsteady breathing, but he nodded, after a moment, as though he'd had to reign in a phobia.
"A... all right."

"I'll be in there with you- I'm not locking you in alone again."
He pushed his hand into Adrien's hair, leaning the boy's cheek against his own shoulder.
"Never again."

Adrien shuddered and flattened against him. If he had not done so much crying that he could, momentarily, no longer do so, that statement would have been met by a flood of tears, and the short sob he made as he rubbed his cheek - apologetically, dependently, rather animalistically - against Adrian's shoulder made that clear.

Adrian slowly released him and stood to go lock the office door.
"Will you be all right?"

He slid very gently back onto the floor, holding himself up on his hands, but tilted his head back and met Adrian's eyes and nodded. He looked so far away from here, like looking up at a statue in the streets...

"Oh my God," Adrian said to himself. "Oh my God."
He turned very quickly and hurried into the office to lock the door with a kind of twitching urgency. He swallowed a few times in rapid succession and blinked hard.
He had broken him...
Adrian's hand groped uselessly at the handle of his desk drawer until he merely hooked the knob between two of his all-but-paralyzed fingers and pulled it open to retrieve a pair of scissors.
