It was with some trepidation that Griet had agreed to meet with the owners in regards to their request for a housekeeper. The last job she'd held, also in that position, had hardly filled her with confidence. Still, she had little other choice if she wanted to support her family, as her poor blind father still needed the money that she sent home. Well, there coudl probably be worse places to work than Paris; she just hoped that nobody tried to force themselves on her again.
In any case, the girl arrived on time, in her usual outfit, fiddling with her covered hair. As an afterthought, she had decided to throw in that one pearl earring she had obtained under such...difficult circumstances.

Matthew threw on his jacket with a bit of flair, as he stared at himself in the mirror. Normally he didn't spend so much time in front of the blasted thing, but today he had felt compelled to stare at himself a bit longer than usual. Groaning as he fluffed the front of his hair, he gave up, how was one to run a business when they still looked as young as he did?
He turned to the knock on the door, the one butler that followed Matthew to Paris opened it "Sir?"
"What is it?" Matthew replied, still a little miffed at his hair.
"The miss coming for the interview has arrived?"
"Oh right! Right!" Matthew put on his biggest smile and marched out of his room, looking like a man on a mission. "Is she in the foyer?"
"Indeed sir."
"Oh stop it, go do something useful, like drink tea and write gossipy letters to mother."
"Of course sir."
Matthew came in to the foyer and exclaimed "Why hello there!"

It certainly was a nice house, and Griet had time to look around it. Not nearly as cramped as the homes in Delft, anyway. Still, nice place aside, she couldn't shake that feeling of not being especially welcome that she got in all fancy homes.
Hearing footsteps, she turned, putting on her best smile and trying to look convincing. Well, the master of the house was young enough. Maybe that was a good sign. She'd have to see. In any case, Griet curtsied politely to him.
"Ah. Good...day, sir. Master Harris, was it?"

"Indeed it is, Matthew David Anthony Harris" he bowed slightly and smiled "Junior. And you are Griet I presume? Or would you rather be called something else?" This last sentence was said most sincerely, he'd had maids at home that just wanted to be called maid, or Ms. whatever, he'd rather call them by their first name if he could.

Griet paused, taking him in as well. Well, for starters, she did notice that he wasn't bad-looking. It wouldn't be so bad taking orders from him, certainly. Hopefully he wasn't married (it could happen in her time), and there wouldn't be a repeat of the previous situation. If all went well, she thought she might actually enjoy this. Relatively speaking.
"Griet is fine, sir," she murmured, liking to use her own name. It was so much more personal that way.
((Side note: the Dutch common folk did not have surnames until the nineteenth century.))

((I am so sorry I forgot about this thread and cool )) "Wonderful, Griet it is, what a lovely name, mine is so boring, so biblical" he chuckled. "Lets take a tour of the house shall we? Normally that would be the butlers job, but he's off writing scathing notes to me mother about how terrible I am. It's a joke we play on her, so that when she reads them, she goes running to father and father has to remind her that I'm just playing."

((It's fine!))
"You're very kind," she observed with a smile. "And if it helps, you're the first Matthew I've met."
"Indeed, let's, if if please you." It would be nice to see the house, and fortunately useful as well. Griet chuckled softly along with the joke. She wished her family were close enough, or possibly just had enough leisure time to do that kind of thing.

(( )) "It would, it would indeed, come, come" he beckoned her with a sort of child like wave of his hand "also, if you would do me a huuuge favor" he laughed as they came down a long hallway filled with paintings "if I start to talk too much, just tell me. Apparently, in my head, I've got a lot of very interesting things to say. I usually shut up once the person I'm talking to has fallen asleep from boredom."
