"Madamoiselle Treszka," he said, with an incline of his head.
How exotic.
"I am Zachaire de Chagny...and why would you think such a thing? We've hardly spoken."
She was so puzzling, the way she was acting. He couldn't fathom why any of this would be troubling to her.

"It's...hard to explain." She said with a sigh.
She was wringing her hands, and when she realized that she was, she quickly dropped her arms.
"Just...take it on my word. It's not a good idea."

He crossed his arms, the motion less of a defensive action than that it was simply what he did when he was thoughtful.
"Yet I only have your insistence that it is so, without any real explanation as to the why." He said dryly.
"Come now, how could you leave a gentleman with such a thing?"

"I'm sorry, I..." she shook her head.
She'd long ago come to the conclusion that it was best that she kept to herself. While her life had thus far been devoid of the drama that had plagued her parents, it had also it's own pains and heartaches--specifically, whenever a relationship seemed to start, it ended before it had a chance to go anywhere, through no fault of her own. It simply...faded away.
She was now of the opinion that she was destined be alone, so it was better not to try anymore, and that was that.
"It's even too much that you saw me to begin with."

There was something there, a sorrow that he saw briefly in her eyes. There was a lot she wasn't saying, a lot that could more sensed than seen. But whatever it was, he couldn't say. He only knew that it made him feel in a manner that hadn't happened before.
"Please, madamoiselle...give me the benefit of the doubt, at least. Speak to me on a few more occasions. If it is as you say, then no more will come of it."
Not unreasonable, surely. Also, he could at last return to her her scarf.

"I don't know," she said, part of her wanting to take his suggestion. Her existence, such as it was these days, was so damned lonely...

Sensing the indecision, he pressed on.
"Just a bit of a try, is all I ask. And, I can return to you the scarf you lost during our last meeting."

She gave him a lopsided smile.
"I had been wondering about that..."

Damn, she could already feel her resolve slipping. Why'd he have to be such a charmer?
"I..." She sighed.
"All right, you win--this time."

He inclined his head at the acknowledgement.
"Thank you. I promise, you will see that there was nothing to worry about after all." He said sincerely.

He sounded so convinced of it--she hoped it wasn't an unfounded conviction on his part. She did want some companionship, after all.
She moved away from the rail, pausing by the chairs.
"Well, since we are both here...we could watch the opera together, I guess."

He was glad, that she had agreed, though it didn't show--his expression, as usual, remained impassive.
"It it's not an imposition, I will stay."

"Oh, no, it's not. The opera's starting soon in any case, and I don't want to make you run all the way to whatever seats are left."
There was a tiny hint of a smile as she spoke--she couldn't quite imagine someone has prim and proper as him making a mad dash to anywhere.

Funnily enough, his thoughts were along similar lines as hers, though more along the lines of how running would be unseemly. With a nod, he gestured for her to sit first before taking a seat himself.
