"Yes."
He looked Adrien in the face and smiled a little.
"And you?"

He nodded, tightened his fingers on the bathrobe lapel and pulled himself up for a kiss.

"Wait here for a moment, I'm going to fetch the paper."

Adrien blinked a few times, subdued, sinking back, cupping his mug in two hands and nodding.

He returned a moment later with the newspaper in his hand and a sour expression on his face.
"Unbelievable. Unfuckingbelievable."

Adrien, curled up on the bed, lifted his eyebrows.
"Mmmwhat happened?"

He tossed the newspaper toward Adrien.
"They finally got a comment out of Largo about that little visit one of his operatives paid me last month," he said bitterly, with a look toward his right hand. "A comment, mind you. There isn't to be any investigation, with the number of people he's paid off..."

"What? But he - "
Six people had died - several on the way up, and then poor Melissa - and Adrian and Micaela had almost been killed, and there wasn't going to be any investigation? Adrien, alarmed, put aside his half-full cup and picked up the newspaper.
Rotti Largo's one comment was a snide remark about how maybe Mr. Veidt owed them for something, and he just wasn't saying anything, and was that all, because he was sick of hearing the name.
Adrien lowered it with an expression of shock.

"Can you believe this? My God..."
He ran a hand back through his hair, which was damp enough to stay back instead of falling forward into his face again.
"I mean- of all the low, insinuating-"

"....though I guess it works," mused Adrien with a shudder. "I mean, it doesn't sound like he did it, does it?"

"Of course he did it!" Adrian snapped. "It was one of his damned repo men, in a uniform from his company-"

"Yeah, but everyone knows you hate Rotti."
His fingers tightened on the newspaper and it crumpled.
"I mean, for good reason," he said quickly. "But, I mean. It's a costume, the repo suit. You know how easy those are to put on and off."

"Yes, well."
He sighed.
"The man had identification on his person and everything. He certainly worked for Largo."

Adrien shrugged, a little cowed.
"I know your world's not like this, but... not everyone has the loyalties you'd think they would. I mean, everyone can be bought. I know that if I were gonna frame anybody, I'd frame Rotti Largo."
He glanced at the paper. "It just feels like if he'd done it, he'd say something else. It sounds like he's sneering at even the concept. I mean, wouldn't he want to ruin you? Why kill you? I mean. That guy was after you - if Largo wanted to hurt you, don't you think he'd have gone for Micaela first - ?"
He stopped abruptly, blood running cold. He didn't want to think about that. It would have been incredibly easy to pick off Micaela. God, what would they do without her - ?

"It's petty revenge, pure and simple. I bought Magdalene's contract and he's been seething ever since."
