He sat down, vaguely apologetic.

Adrien scooted closer, wrapped his arms around Adrian, and shut his eyes, all totally silent and all totally trusting.

For a moment, he looked down toward Adrien again, with the same question as ever plain on his face:
What in God's name had happened to this boy to make him like this?

Adrien didn't quite stir, in a rare moment of peace. Of course, casual as he was, it didn't seem rare, but it was by his standards.
But Divine cleared her throat behind them.
"Um, Nnnn... Adrien?" she said in a little voice. One almost expected she was about to say, 'Yoo-hoo!' to get his attention. "Of course you're allowed to stay and have dinner, but have you.... ummmm. Forgotten, that there's a ball tonight?"
Adrien sat up straight.
"Gosh, I did!"
He beamed up at Adrian.
"I completely forgot! I'd invite you, too, you know, but I don't think you'd... you know, fit in."

"...a ball?"
Adrian's voice was flat.

"Oh, yeah, a drag ball - "
He stopped, expression changing thoughtfully as he realized they'd never talked about this. Well, there was Divine, but - that didn't make it obvious, did it?

"Pardon?"

"You know," said Adrien solicitiously, "drag, like.... ummmm well like Divine," he said, voice dropping to a loud whisper.

"Yes, but are you implying that-"

"- like a party like that, only, well. Most of them do it a lot anyways. Um. Like Divine," and he was still whispering. But his eyes were bright, and he stood up, pulling Adrian's hand. "Heeeey. Come on. Come on!"

"Divine and..."
His voice trailed off with understanding.

"Come on!"
He tugged him along with him excitedly to the other side of the room, behind the bed where the three of them slept, and tugged out Divine's luxurious, musk-scented suitcases, where Divine kept her dresses, her shoes, and her wigs, and opened them until he found the dress he was looking for, a beautiful blue one he held against himself as he spun elegantly to face him, smile bright.

Adrien stared.
"I suppose it's time I left you alone, then-"

"Why?"
Failing to get it, he thought Adrian meant to change.
"You've seen me undress before."
He dropped the dress onto the bed with a grin and slid closer, fingering one of the buttons on his nice black coat, then wrapping his arms around him. One leg bent slightly at the knee, he slowly pressed his hips against Adrian's, biting his lip on a beaming smile, face flushed beneath the hair that had come out of its usual Veidt coiff under the application of his hat.
Then he tossed his head back and laughed. "Your buttons are cold!"

"You clearly have a certain sort of social occasion in mind-"
