*Madame Giry resumed her mask of cool disdain as she turned to look at Cassiopeia.*
"A scatterbrain, evidently. You would be--?"

*Cassie blushed.* "Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot... I'm Cassiopeia Rousseau, and I was wondering who i should talk to if i were interested in an audition... I'm a friend of Christine's."

"Mademoiselle Rousseau--I have not heard Mlle. Daae mention you..." *she mused.* "In any case, I should suggest you speak to the managers--I am unable to assist you in that arena. It has been some time since I have left off my duties as the ballet mistress here."

*Cassiopeia blushed again, looking down uncomfortably.* "I'm sorry, I recognized you from my mother's years here before she left Paris, and you're the only one I felt might know anything."

((Um, how should I get in touch with Erik, now? Is there some place more private where Sues won't come in every ten seconds?))
*Something in Madame Giry's expressions softened.* "I cannot help you beyond what I have already told you, my dear. Go seek the managers."

*Cassie smiled.* "Thank you. I really do appreciate it... My mother was Colleen Rousseau, an alto in the chorus. I doubt you remember her, but she used to bring me here when she had rehearsals." *She nodded.* "I suppose I'll go find the managers now."

*Madame Giry frowned.*
"It must have been more than fifteen years ago, then--I was mistress for that time, and cannot recall anyone in the chorus with children. Singers may have had less discipline than in my corps de ballet--motherhood and dancing professionally on stage do not go hand in hand."

"Well, Mama never did care for the rules." *Cassie nodded.* "I'll leave now, I'f i'm bothering you.*

"If you wish to speak to the managers, you'd best go see them at once," *she said not unkindly.* "Providence favours those who act promptly."

*Erik had frozen the moment Cassie had entered. That she knew of him, had spoken to him, did not lessen his mistrust. It would not do to give up all his secrets! He waited until he heard the door, then waited a little longer.*
"Is she gone?" *he asked quietly.*

((I'm going to assume she's gone to get the managers. Cass--you're not hearing this. ) "It's safe now," *she murmured.*

"Is it ever, madame?" *Erik chuckled darkly.* "Have you come to warn Erik of something? Or to find out if you need to warn others of Erik?"

"Both, actually," *she said softly, wondering if it were prudent to offer him a smile.* "You will not hurt anyone, will you? No one has done anything to merit harm..."

"If Erik has hurt people, it is because they will not let him be!" *he snarled.* "I do not seek to cause pain, madame. But if people bring it on themselves? Who is Erik to answer for it?"

"I don't know," *she said quickly, quietly, her hand drifting unconsciously to the level of her eyes.* "I don't know, Erik..." *She paused before continueing.* "There is one...who very much wishes to speak with you--to know you."
