M'Ress had honestly never been particularly fond of the transporters. Normally, too, she would have protested the choice of her as part of the away team, but then again, she was simply a relief officer, and she supposed it was part of the job (and she'd have to read the directives again more carefully).
Either way, she was terribly confused when, after a rather rough transport, she found herself not only on an entirely different-looking planet (at least it was Class M--even Earth-like).
Irritated and rather worried, she sat on a rock in the sunny forest, trying repeatedly to hail the Hood, to which she had been transferred for the time being.

As was the way of things in this world, and indeed the one he'd come from, coincidence allowed Kirk to pass by this very spot on one of his rambling walks around Lorien. He had never gotten over the beauty of the place, and while it had not paled, his experience was becoming somewhat too benign and ordinary. Life in an elven wood should not, he felt, be ordinary.
So he was especially delighted to see a Caitian here, and a Starfleet officer at that. He raised an arm, shouting out a greeting.
((I'm not sure if he knows her. Should he? I mean, I'm not sure when exactly my Kirk comes from, so what's better for you?))

((I suppose he could recognize her; she was canonically on board for the final two years of the mission, before TMP. Even if not, her name may have been mentioned...I don't know, whichever you'd prefer. Kirk is your char, after all.))
Resigned, M'Ress sat back with a sigh (or a growl, more accurately). Lying on her back, she stared up at the trees. It was almost like home here...but a little too peaceful, and too...temperate. In either case, she should probably have expected this. Even as an officer, she was the one wearing the red shirt, just like in the videos.
She was roused from her contemplations by a sudden shout, and startled, she sat up. For a moment, she wondered who could be hailing her--then her eyes lit up as she recognized the figure. "Captain!" At once she hurried over. "Therrre you arrre, Captain! They've been looking all overrr the galaxy forrr you!"

Kirk raised an eyebrow, genuinely delighted. Not, of course, as delighted as when he'd found Spock, but when was he?
"M'Ress!" he said happily, catching her upper arm casually in his hand in a firm, friendly grip. "I thought it was you. What are you doing here?"
It was too much to hope she'd found him and would be taking him home. An away party would have had... well, a party to it.

Honestly, M'Ress was surprised that he did remember her--she was, after all, only the relief officer, after all. But it seemed that what was said about him was true: he never forgot a face.
She practically purred happily, having solved the case all by herself. Kind of. After all, she still had to report back to Starfleet and get them both offworld. "You do rrrememberrr! ...Well, actually, Captain, I came with a team from the Hood, to find you. But, ah, they...seem to have disappearrred."

"Of course, I remember, Lieutenant," Kirk said. It was a point of pride for him to remember his crew, even the relief crew. A ship was a living organism, and it behooved a captain to monitor as much that body as he could. "I wouldn't forget anyone so charming." Also, she was the only Caitian communications officer he had.
He glanced around.
"Disappeared," he said, musing. "We should look, I suppose. But good work, Lieutenant, finding me. As beautiful as it is, I wasn't looking for a vacation."

Well, he certainly was as professional as ever, even off of the ship. She made a mental note to bring that up if there was a hearing of some sort of this. And suave, too, she noted, chuckling.
M'Ress couldn't help but glance around herself, as she was kind of unnerved in this environment. Not that she expected to find anyone standing there suddenly. "I guess so," she sighed. "Thank you...I'm just glad to do my duty, I suppose."

Kirk smiled.
"Well, you've done your duty, so relax a little," he suggested. "Enjoy Lorien. It's a beautiful forest. I just hope the rest of the away team hasn't had a chance to find out just how... seductive it can be."

That she did, and sat down, relieved, with a sigh. "Lorrrien, you say? What planet is this, anyway? I can't seem to get a rrreading. ...And do you think it could be dangerrrous, then?"
Damn it, she couldn't just seem to get her mind off work. It really was pleasant here, though, so...maybe it'd do as a temporary shore leave, which had to be good for anyone.

She didn't know. That was odd, considering the search party... He shrugged mentally. He was detecting a pattern--or had done, long since. This planet wasn't letting any of them go any time soon. Spock would call that a wild guess, but Kirk tended to trust his intuition.
"Earth," he said quietly. "19th century Earth. We've... gone back in time, Lieutenant."

Normally, she would have known ahead of time--after all, M'Ress was nothing if not careful about information--but this was not the planet she'd been meaning to beam to. It was...strange, here, really. In the quiet, now that she listened, she could almost feel something watching them. But, perhaps, that was only her imagination.
...That, however, was something of a shock. "Time...trrravel? That's amazing! Almost impossible to believe, but amazing nonetheless. When we get off of herrre, we have to tell Starrrfleet of this!"

Kirk smiled his knowing, though by no means private, smile.
"They know," he said. "We discovered the ability a few years ago, through a side-effect of an anti-matter experiment. But I think this is different--unintentional. No, Lieutenant, I'm afraid that unless we are able to rig something up that lets us communicate across time, your communicator is useless."
