"23 and some change."

"So that means I'm a decade older than you" sighing he shook his head, and wrung his hands, only then noticing the lack of gloves, which he proceeded to put on. He didn't need to fall in to Laszlo, he could only imagine the images the boy had incurred since the last time.

He shrugged, watching unobtrusively as John put his gloves on.
"You're still not old. To qualify, you'd have to at least be old enough to be my father." He said airily.

"Good point, and I'm sure I couldn't have children at 10."

Thanks to László's recent experiences with supernatural things, his initial skeptical reaction to John's ability had changed to curiosity.
"So...er...how'd you find out you had...that?" He indicated John's gloved hands.

"Had wha-?" He looked down at his hands and smiled sadly "I was 13, kinda sheltered you know, and my parents weren't exactly the hugs and kisses type, or I probably would have known sooner." He grabbed a chair and flipped it around, straddling it. "Mum and Dad decided that I probably should go to school at least for a year to meet some friends, but mostly to get me out of their hair. Good people, just not, friendly."
John chuckled and wiggled his fingers on the chair "Well school sucked I decided and within the first week I was being picked on. Teachers pet, sissy boy, yada yada, and the biggest bully in the school was a boy named Silo, he was as big as one too. Well Silo decided that it would be funny to beat me up one day and when I went to stop him from punching me in the face. I was suddenly swarmed with memories that weren't my own. He was an abused child, his father did terrible things to him, and his mother drank a lot. When I was finally able to let go. Silo was crying and I just stared at him and told him I was sorry."
John let the memory sink in, remembering it was always sad "I started testing it out on people, for a couple seconds at a time, keeping it quiet from my parents and teachers. Eventually they found out though and took me out of school, they wouldn't have me hurting anyone, which is impossible."

He really couldn't imagine suddenly discovering that he had an ability like that. Then again, until recently wouldn't have thought such a thing even existed.
"Well, it doesn't hurt...just...feels strange.
Can you see anything you want?"
He'd always wondered just what, exactly, John had seen that one time, and how much of it. There were some things that László really hoped he hadn't discovered.

"Sometimes, most of the time no, I basically see the most prominent memories, or the most recent. If I concentrate hard enough, I can find repressed memories, but I've only been successful once."

He nodded, a bit relieved at that. It meant that John definitely hadn't seen some of the worse parts of László's past.
"Most recent...?"
His eyes briefly widened before he glanced away.
"...the vampire, right?"

"Yea, your friend the other night" he smiled "don't worry about it."

"Oh, yeah, right. I mean, you saw that he wasn't a bad person...er, not that I'm defending what he's done..."
He sighed.
"I could've worded that a bit better."

"He isn't a bad person, I saw the way he looked at you when he took you to the hospital, he looked as though he could have cried."

He shuffled a bit uncomfortably. The subject of the vampire was still an odd one, to be honest. He didn't quite know what to think of Louis yet.
"Well...but he is dangerous, regardless."

"He is" John looked down "I think, lonely, more than dangerous."

He sighed.
"Right."
He wasn't going to follow that line of conversation. It wasn't any of his business, and though he wasn't callous, he really didn't want to know overmuch about a vampire's personal life.
And that didn't address the fact that he was fairly certain his vampiric acquaintance had lost control of himself that night in the opera house. Who could say he wouldn't again?
