Wandering the hallways, ducking through doors, Mercutio was simply whiling away the time getting to know his new nook. It was surprisingly deserted for an opera house, although the occasional herd of ballet rats or stray janitor kept him company; there was, Mercutio decided, simply too many crannies for him to learn them all. Not that he wasn't going to try.
He slunk around a corner, nearly colliding with another unexpected janitor, mop and bucket in her hands; but a lady janitor, which he hadn't seen yet, and it as it was the first other human being he'd seen in at least 15 minutes Mercutio felt obligued to make some attempt at human contact, aka, he raised his eyebrows at her.

Well, this was almost suspicious. Coming in the way she had in hopes of finding someone to talk to about employment--to her irritation, there didn't seem to be any phones here--Rin had seen nobody at all. If she didn't know better, she might have thought that she'd wandered into another part of the Spirit World. At least with her natural sense of direction she didn't get lost...she just didn't know where she was going.
Sighing, she stepped around yet another deserted corridor. Or rather, it was deserted until she suddenly saw someone in her path, and instinctively shifted out of the way. Finally, someone around to ask! Of course, she might chuckle at his thoughts. Contact, yes. Human, no. She raised one eyebrow in return. "Hm? See anything funny?" Having said her required sarcastic response, Rin shifted the mop and bucket in her hands, leaning against the wall. "You work here? I've been trying to find somebody to talk to about a job for twenty minutes now."

"If I did, wouldn't I be laughing?" There was really no reason to lower his eyebrows, not after a comment like that. Mercutio spread his hands. "Oh, no, o cleanliest of maidens, I don't work here, I'm only going for a stroll. I felt the urge to get lost in the perilous depths of the opera house, catch some musty air, you know. Die in some abandoned corner, never to hear the tremulous footsteps of a blushing ballet girl again. I'd tell you the way to go but after a half hour I don't even know myself."

"I dunno. Doesn't that depend on you?" she replied glibly, casually flipping one lock of hair back into position. "Ahh...I see," she replied in a moment, catching immediately what kind of fellow he was. Well, if that was his game, she was used to playing it. Bring it on.
"That's probably alright; I don't think I want to directions to some corner, as I'm here not to die but to work. Then again, what's the difference?" She shrugged, and stood up straight again. "Well...I guess we might as well go together. That way at least two people will be lost, better chances of being heard by a rescue team. Heh."

"That would work," Mercutio said, quite blandly. "You can depend on me. I'm quite the screamer."

Hiding a snicker, Rin nodded. "I'll bet..." She'd seen some pretty impressive screamers, too. Usually they were screaming at her and the rest of the staff. Big surprise.
She sighed, and nodded, looking down the smaller, branching hall. "So...I've just wandered in here. Do you know exactly where this is, anyway?"

Mercutio gave her a deadpan look. "The... opera house? The left side, at least, I started off backstage following the passage ways." His gaze scanned past her, idly. He rubbed his nose with the back of his hand. "If you just wandered in here shouldn't we just be able to go right back out? D'you come in the front door or the back?"

"Oh." That explained a lot. "Huh. I thought it looked important," she admitted, nodding, and stretched--it had been a late night. She glanced back over her shoulder, as well. "Well, I meant I wandered into the area--I'm not from around here." Understatement. "For what it's worth, though, the back."

Another long, deadpan look. She was joking, right? Even Mercutio couldn't miss all the curlicues and snazzy statues out front, nor the posters proclaiming the latest shows.
"Oh, so, you and I actually started nearby- and yet we met from opposite directions. Oh, that is damnably typical of this place." Not that Mercutio didn't like the opera house- he did. He liked that for all its impressive fronting, underneath it was dirty and old and creaked as it worked, and he liked the people, and he really liked the chorus girls, but this was not the first time he'd been lost. He shrugged, giving Rin an easy grin that was born less of any affection for this stranger rather than something automatic to do. "Well, we'll get out eventually. My good friend the door-opener will open ev'ry door 'til she- he, pardon, finds us."
He turned and strode off down another branching hallway, whistling lowly as he paused to peer around a doorframe.

Of course Rin was joking--it was written in her smirk. To be frank, though, she hadn't at first--she could see all the statuary, but not knowing French (nor being acquainted with the theater; that was life), she'd had to get close enough to actually see "Opera".
"I never liked mazes, myself," Rin snorted. She had to admit, looking around, though, that she felt...at home. She was used to working in the less-than-glamorous back corridors of the bathhouse--she'd grown up there--and damned if this didn't remind her of the place. What was more, he was far from the worst person to meet coming in. Hearing him slip up, she chuckled. "Not ill at ease around me, are you?" Her own grin showed just a few teeth...sharp ones, though.
For lack of another way to get out, Rin strolled after Mercutio.

Mercutio didn't even glance back at her, and so her sharp teeth went completely unnoticed. "Not at all, lady. My friend the door-opener just can't decide which he'd rather be. He is confused, bemused, baffled and burdened; nothing, in fact, to do with you."
