*Rochester's lips twisted in a relieved smile, satisfied to feel the weight of her against him. His hands drifted gently down her arms before his hands found hers. Giving them a brief squeeze, he dropped one, turning to pull her gently towards the welcoming comfort of an unnecessarily large bed. It was better without talking. He could express himself more efficiently and ran lower risk of saying something he would regret.*

Shadi following, biting her lip (mostly figuratively) lest she ruin something by talking more. She did smile, though--she smiled a lot--as he led her to the bed, stepping out of the last of her clothes.

*He kept his shirt, though the top buttons were undone. Rochester smiled soothingly as he eased both of them onto the bed and settled, one arm around her. He could smell her hair and it calmed him. Already his lashes were heavy.*
"Thank you." *He murmured lethargically.*

Shadi could feel his body relax into sleep, and it struck her how familiar that was, how well she knew him, how much she'd missed him.
"Thank you," she murmured, easing back against him as if to ensure she'd know he was there throughout the night.

*Rochester only half-heard her, pleasantly groggy as he drifted off to sleep. It was the first time in so far as he could remember that he wanted to sleep. It comforted him. She comforted him.*

Shadi felt him drift off, and it was not long before she followed. But she rarely had trouble sleeping, and she had had a hard day. A hard week. She slept better, here, with him, it was true.

And she slept a long time. At least it felt like it, and she woke somehow both rested and with the slightly groggy sense of having slept too long--or having drunk the day before. She stretched experimentally, both to see how she was feeling... and to see if Rochester was still there.
Rochester. He'd found her... or close enough. Or had it all been a dream?

*His side of the bed was vacant, but the sheets were crumpled and still a touch warm. There was a soft creak in a room nearby.*

There was a moment of alarm when she discovered the empty bed--she thought, perhaps, it had all been a dream--until her brain clicked into gear and she recognized the warmth and the disarray--and heard the noise.
It was possible, she thought, that she'd dreamed all last evening and was still at Valmont's. She shuddered at that; she was not altogether familiar with the decor of that person's home, considering the state she'd been in the previous day. But no, there was the dress Rochester had procured for her, there was he bag. She was home.
She got out of bed, her head swimming only briefly as she pulled on a nightgown and a robe and made her way towards the sound...

*Rochester popped into the small corridor, tray in hand covered with tea and small sandwiches. He started at the appearance of her, the china chattering as he recovered.*
"Oh darling..." *He expressed softly, as if it were still too early to speak at normal volume.* "You gave me a fright there. I'm so sorry if I woke you, but I was terribly peckish."
*He lifted the tray slightly in example.*
"Would you care for some?"

"Sorry," Shadi said automatically. "No, you didn't wake me." She smiled, both warm and a little uncertain. Yesterday... had been difficult. And confusing. She wanted very much not to screw up again. She glanced at the tray.
"If there's enough," she said. "I think I could eat quite a lot, actually."

*Rochester smiled more confidently, dimple cutting into his cheek.*
"Well then, where would you have it?" *He queried, seemingly perfectly cheerful.*
"If we run out, I'm perfectly satisfied to call for some more."

"Oh, let's eat by the window," she said. It was a nice, sunny day, and as long as the sun wasn't directly piercing her tired eyes she thought she could handle it. "And you may have to. I'm ravenous."
She flashed him a smile, to indicate that meant everything with her was fine.

*There was relief in his eyes as Rochester nodded, dutifully taking the tea to the small table by the window.*
"The rest did you good, darling." *He spoke in time.* "There's a delightful color about your cheeks."

There was more of it, as Shadi blushed. Not so much from the compliment, but the thought that she'd presented no pretty picture the day before.
"I think I shall wait a long time before drinking that much again," she said, sitting and starting right in on the food.
