As this had happened before the two had moved in together, Yomiko wasn't entirely certain what brought about this situation, but she wasn't likely to ask. For one thing, it wasn't really her business, and for another, it seemed like that would just be too hard on Azula. "I wouldn't really be surprised...but I know how that kind of thing feels..."
She took a deep breath herself, enjoying the scent of the tea. It was hard, indeed. "Well, since you asked," she replied brightly, "today is the book fair!"

"Just don't spend too much of your paycheck on books then," Azula cautioned with a relieved smile, filing the issues away for later, "I'll make dinner late tonight just in case you get delayed cleaning up after your event."
She sipped her tea, giving Yomiko a chance to contribute to the conversation, running a few thoughts for her own affairs behind an interested expression. With luck, some idiot in her district wouldn't light their residence aflame too early in her shift and she could work out the physical and mental kinks with a kata or two. Micaela was... a troublesome issue, made more so because she was convinced that somehow her leaving was *her* fault on some level.

"I'll try to restrain myself," Yomiko chuckled, blushing lightly. It was so hard, really. "Okay...thanks for putting up with me."
She calmly had a drink for a few moments, before looking up again and commenting something that had been on her mind (work wasn't quite as frantic at the library as at the department, so needless to see she had more spare time). "You know, I'm really curious about how exactly this place works. I mean, I can tell it's an alternate world, but--how alternate?
"Things seem to come into and out of it easily. I get paychecks from home, and some other places outside it are apparently different years. Maybe if we figured out how this place intersects with the world, it would help." She shrugged.

Azula's face went serious, the Firebender pausing with a piece of bacon half way to her mouth. She blinked and and put her morsel down, "That... is a delicate question to explore. One I pursued under the goading of a boy named Chant. And I wound up confronting a very dangerous man in a mask under the Opera House. If it had turned violent..."
She shook her head, "We'd need to be very careful if we did this, much as I'd love to know what happened to everyone I've met who's vanished again just as mysteriously. BUT... Not a bad topic to explore, certainly. Long as you watch my back and I watch yours."
Azula smiled and picked up her bite of bacon, chewing on it contentedly. Oh, Agni. A perfect. Potential mess.

Finally Yomiko had started on the food as well, leaning in curiously when she saw Azula get serious. "Chant...? Sounds familiar," she muttered to herself, nodding and listening. Wait...a masked man? Under the Opera? Had to be a copycat, of some sort. But still, it was dangerous, and she frowned in worry.
"Hmm. I can see why. At the least, the side of effects of messing up the multiverse could be catastrophic...if we didn't get killed trying to find out. But--yes--I think I'd like to find that out. After work, of course," she added brightly, picking up a slice of toast.

"Of course," agreed the former princess between bites, "Not that I think we have the kind of power to break the 'multiverse' if everyone else here hasn't broken it already. We're good, but not that good."
She snorted softly, an amused glint in her eye, "We have a new guy at the Fire Brigade Station, a recruit fresh from the Academy. Very careful around me, but very vocal about the topic of 'freaks' when he thinks I can't hear him. Doesn't quite believe the other men about me yet, much as I've been playing nice with him, but his expression is going to be perfect when he gets it."

That was comforting...at least, kind of. She shuddered to think of the full extent of the people who were here, after all. Anyway, she nodded again, thoughtfully.
"Hm?" Yomiko's own expression clouded over, troubled. "Wait... 'Freak'? That's...that's just unacceptable!" She waved her toast for emphasis. "You put up with it? Well, hm. I suppose you can't really do anything to him, fairly...but still."

"It's okay. The other men are pretty tough on him on my behalf," she answers, the ghost of a smirk on her lips before looking away, "It's... nice being useful without being obviously manipulated. It really is. Zuzu, where ever he is, *was onto something* after all. And when we find him, I might even tell him so. Maybe."

"Well, I'm at least glad to hear he doesn't totally get away with it." She sipped her tea again, almost done.
"I agree with that, wholeheartedly." And she chuckled at the joke.

Azula nodded agreement, social mask concealing the last flicker of concern she had for her sibling's wherabouts. If something had happened... No. He could take care of himself. Not her problem if he didn't choose to seek her out.
She took a long pull of her tea, preparing one last forkful of eggs for consumption, "Any idea which rumor you'd like to hit on first in our search for the Truth Behind the Paris Sinkhole?"

Of course Azula had told Yomiko about Zuko before. It was upsetting that he'd disappeared, but based on the description of him, she guessed that he probably wouldn't be in too much danger.
Finishing up at last, she neatly put her cup and saucer on top of herp late with the silverware. "Hm. Good question...I suppose I'm most interested in finding out whether this actually is a universe in itself."

Azula shook her head good-naturedly, both amused at Yomiko's priorities and annoyed at the potential danger such lofty priorities could bring. Such was the price she had to pay for the support she got though, and it was almost always worth it in the long run.
"Well," she replied upon swallowing her last bite of eggs and washing down it down with the tea, "You certainly don't aim low on the objective list. Find out where we can find a lead, though, and we can hit it tommorow, okay?"

Large issues, small issues...they sort of got mixed up at times in Yomiko's internal logic. It generally worked out in the end, though, and she thought it was alright. Even if it did entail some kind of danger, well, she had never been too severely injured yet, right? By some definitions.
"I suppose not," she admitted with a smile. "Sounds like a good idea--I guess I've got some investigating to do. I won't rest until I've inspected every suspicious-looking nook and cranny!"

"Correction, Yomiko," Azula interjected not unkindly, "We have some investigating to do. This is a group effort. Would you mind cleaning the dishes? I really should start heading for the Fire House in the next few minutes if I don't want to be late."
She stood up, a smile dancing across her face briefly as the former princess looked down at her friend and roomate.

"Oh, of course!" Yomiko flashed a grin. "I just got so caught up in it I forgot we'd be doing it together!" She scratched the back of her head, embarrassed. "But, sure! No problem, I can handle that." Uncoordinated, she was not, at least.
She nodded cheerfully, deftly stepping over some paperbacks to take them to the sink.
