"Well, for myself, I rather enjoy reading and tending to things in the garden."

"I'm sure I needn't tell you that I am a patron of the arts." Zachaire said, smiling faintly.

Treszka laughed a little.
"No, you don't." She turned to Violetta with a smile.
"Oh, I love literature! I'm not much of a gardener, but I do like wandering about well-tended grounds."

"Have you visited the rose gardens by Versailles? If not, you should--they are absolutely beautiful."

Zachaire raised an eyebrow at Treszka's last comment, wondering if it was a reference to how they'd met.
"Indeed. Or the other opera houses in the city?"

She reddened a bit.
"Er...I haven't, to both. To be honest, I never had...ah...the means."

Zachaire wondered at that, seeing as how he'd caught her at the Populaire. She was an odd bundle of condratictions, and an increasingly intriguing one .

Treszka couldn't quite figure out just what that look was that Zachaire was giving her, but she shrugged it off as yet another thing about him that she didn't know.
"Oh, yes, now I definitely can."

Ever-perceptive, Violetta caught the undercurrent of the situation, and decided to subtly start changing the subject.
The rest of dinner went by quickly and amiably, the conversation meandering here and there as the three got to know each other better. Near the end of it, it became quite clear to Violetta that Zachaire wanted some time alone with Treszka, but in his usual fashion he was being obtuse about it. With her her own usual subtlety, Violetta made a discreet exit, claiming business that needed tending to as she departed.
It left Zachaire and Treszka by themselves in the drawing-room.
