*Jake knocked softly on the door.*

*Lark jumped at the sound, having been balanced precariously with Lizzie's comb in her mouth and several locks of her hair laced up in her fingers as she tried to make something pretty of herself out of the meager dress and such. It was probably Lizzie, surprised by someone in her room, but at least she could be of help.*
"Ome Un." *She forced out in muffled greeting as she tucked another pin into place.*

*Jake poked his head around the door, a helpless smile spreading across his features as he spied Lark struggling with her coiffure in the half-gloom.*
"...need a hand there, Trouble?"

*Upon the recognition of his voice, Lark nearly choked on the comb, spitting it out and standing quickly. One hand dropped its mass of hair, giving her a somewhat helpless and lopsided look as she hurried to the door.*
"Jake!" *She hissed in desperation.* "You're not supposed to see me." Especially like this. She thought as he cheeks went a touch pink.*

"Superstitious, are we? Or just in a tizzy 'cus yer feathers 'r all ruffled up?" *asked Jake, obligingly shutting his eyes but not leaving the room.*

"Cause..." *Lark started uneasily. Huffing slightly, she pulled up the other side of her hair and pinned it. It was less elaborate than she'd have liked but at least it was up.*
"It isn't like we need the help." *She stated sharply. It was true. This had almost been a disaster. Because of her. She slowed her bustle, her tone softening.*
"Jake...I...I'm real sorry. For...everything." *She stated without preamble.*

*She couldn't help but smile at his ease of things, especially with how bad they could have been. Lark pursed her lips for a moment, then nodded to herself.*
"If you're sure that's still what you want."
*The space between them closed, she gently took his hand.*
"Jake..." *She seemed to have something heavy on her mind.* "You are sure, right? That I...I'm what you want in a wife?"

*Jake took one of her hands in each of his and stepped back to put their arms' length between them. His blue gaze was warm and slow as it traveled the length of her face and figure, returning to meet her eyes.*
"Trouble..." *he said, his voice low, soft, and husky dry so's it was nearly impossible to hear.* "If it ain't gonna be you...it ain't gonna be nobody, fer me."

*His tender words made Lark pause and color. She lowered her eyes instinctively, as if she might burst in happiness if she didn't. She sucked her lip slowly, thinking hard on something. Then her eyes lifted brightly.*
"Then you damn well better see me married, Jake Quinn." *She stated indignantly.* "Or I'm gonna just say we should skip that part and get to the rest."
*She arched a devious brow, her eyes lingering on him for a moment before drifting to the door.*

*Jake let out a low whistle and grinned, following her to the door.*
"G'won an' git, then, missy," *he said, giving her a hearty slap on the rump as he might a horse to urge it forward.*

*Lark glared at him for only a moment before her smile was back and perfect. She walked to the door and out into the hall. She nodded to him to signal he should go past her.*
"Meet you at the front of the aisle?" *She asked with a hint of nervous excitement.*

"Don' make me come down 'n git ya," *he drawled with a wink that belied the mild threat.*

*One that Lark deserved. Her lips tightened briefly, but she nodded eagerly, just as Lizzie's head peeked around the corner.*
"Everythin' a'ight?" *The blonde asked her brother, eyes questioning before hardening before she turned them on the other girl. She hadn't forgiven her just yet after all.*
"This thing on again?"

"Warn't never off, Liz. I jus' had ta take a bath, is all..." *said Jake, clearing his throat as he excused himself to go out back and meet the preacher.*
