Starmane growled with fury and counterattacked. Her fangs were gleaming in the sunshine, her sharp claws ready for attack. Fur was flying in the wind and there were sounds of snarling and growling.
Helen whispered to Tsume in a vacant moment "Who is Darcia?"

"Darcia is the noble who killed me," Tsume answered Helen, keeping an eye on Starmane's wolf. "He's the one who cost us Paradise."
He watched as Kiba use a front leg to slash at the elf (hybrid?) during his fight, then went on in more detail. "He went crazy and turned himself into a wolf, and then he started killing our pack and trying to open Paradise for himself. Kiba managed to kill him, but he says Cheza died, too."
She told me to find her, Kiba had said.
"I don't know how much time he spent alone after Cheza died, but it obviously hasn't done any good."

Helen listened to the story in silence, nodding. She felt sadness on the wolves behalf. She had no idea who Cheza was, but it was obviously someone who meant a lot to Kiba. Helen didn't feel any jealousy, only sadness over Kiba's loss. And compassion.
"I am sorry you had to go through so much pain and suffering. I wish I could do anything to help."

Starmane whimpered in pain as Kiba managed to scratch her through her fur. Her wolf growled and threw himself over Kiba.

Why do your kind use wolves like pack mules? Kiba demanded, swiping at the wolf's eyes with a front leg; even if he didn't actually hit, he would at least make him flinch. You're stronger and faster than humans--why don't you use your own strength?
Tsume handled the wolf, leaping onto him and trying to knock him off-balance.

Starmane flinched, but avoided to get hit. She was swiping at Kiba's throat with her own front leg.
Why do you allow yourself to be used as a pack mule for a human? The woman you are carrying are capable of walking herself! And will be easier to hunt for the wolves!

"She may be weak, but at least she admits it!" Kiba retorted, dodging the counterattack and lunging at her ribs. "When my world ended and everyone else died, I had to face Darcia on my own--and I won! I died anyway, but I outlasted him with no one's help! That's what courage is!"
Even as the wolf still pinned him to the ground, Kiba bit at his left foreleg to try getting him off. He continued talking to the elf:
"Why does your courage matter if you always bring that dog with you? What strength do you have if you fight with a crutch, but ridicule the humans who run away without help?"

Starmane growled, dodging the attack against her ribs, and trying to bite Kiba. Her fangs gleamed in the sunlight and her light green eyes were glittering.
"You fought Darcia and won - even if you died? What kind of victory is that? When no one's left to enjoy the fruits of the victory? Then you have spilled you lives for nothing!"
The wolf tried to bite Kiba's leg while Starmane hissed back to Kiba.
"I may be fighting with a crutch, but at least I'm fighting! That is more than you can say about the human you love so much. And you should not speak of dogs, when you're carrying her around. A human that will die soon from the blood loss she is suffering. As a healer, I can tell it will happen very soon!"

Helen was sitting under a tree, still with the arrow in her shoulder. The wound was bleeding a lot, and Helen leaned her back against the tree trunk and tried to rest as much as the pain would allow her. Her face was white, and there were sweat drops on her forehead.
Leaning her head backwards against the tree trunks and closing her eyes, she could still hear the sound of Kiba and the elf woman fighting. The sounds seemed distant, echoing on her mind as she drifted into a deep, unconscious sleep.

"Would YOU keep fighting if you were the last one standing?" He asked her. "You wouldn't--you'd let yourself be killed once someone gets rid of your pet! Just because I died doesn't mean I wasted my efforts--aren't I here?"

Starmane turned back into an elf girl again, looking over at Kiba with sparkling eyes - of fury.
"My people have been chased from the places we used to live by the humans from the beginning of time. The humans hunted, killed and tortured my kind. In the beginning we tried to be friendly to them. Then we noticed they were nothing but evil. We are fighting them still. My tribe has been reduced, but the ones that survived are still fighting. So don't come here and accuse ME of being a coward. Thanks to my healing skills, the warriors in my tribe are still alive. I am the best healer this country have ever seen. I could resurrect our warriors from the dead. I bet YOU can't do that!"
She looked over at Helen, who was laying still, leaning against the tree.
"She's not going to last for very much longer."

"Kiba, let's go!" Tsume ordered, abandoning his fight with the wolf and heading over to Helen, who was not only losing blood but her consciousness.
"Helen--stay awake and get on!" he told her, crouching down.

Helen was laying on the ground, with closed eyes. She heard someone speaking to her, but was too weak to reply. Her face was pale, and she was bleeding from the wound. The arrow was still in her shoulder.

A bright light moved between the trees, as a female elf appeared in the clearing. Her hair was dark, and her fair skin was pale, as if she was seriously ill. Still her eyes were the mildest anyone could see, and her smile warm and gentle. Her feature showed she was a strong soul, in spite of her slender, tiny body.
This was Leetah, the Light Magic Shaman of Lorien.
When she saw the wolves and the wounded woman, she spoke to them in her warm melodious voice.
"It seems to me your friend here could need some help. How did this happen?"

Kiba nearly mistook the new arrival for another opponent, stopping mid-lunge and dashing over in an attempt to attack from behind.
"Get away--"
"Kiba, stop!" Tsume told him. "She's going to help!"
The white wolf did so with immense difficulty, mollified slightly since the other elf didn't seem threatening.
