Watching her, Midna felt jealousy well up in her again, and did her very best to keep it from showing. No wonder Link loved her...she was beautiful and sweet, and no doubt gentle. But...but so was she! Midna could be everything Nessa was, and they'd shared more experiences! Link had saved her life, and she his!
Inner screaming monologue aside, Midna was calm, and for a moment was puzzled. She did not normally shake hands, either in her world or that of light. She remembered the custom, though, and hastened to do so. Hearing her words, Midna smiled, looking flattered while inwardly raging. "Thank you...as a matter of fact, I am new. I don't intend to stay permanently, either."

Nessa smiled warmly and looked over at Midna.
"Oh, I am sorry you will not stay. You seem like a nice girl. It would be really nice to get to know you. Where are you from? And what is your name?"

Every moment of this was making her even angrier, and she had to look away after a quick smile back, as her eye was twitching.
"I...I have things to do at home, if I can get there." She almost paused at the questions, though. Had Link told her? Should she say?
"...I am Midna. I doubt you'd believe me if I told you I was the theocratically elected leader of a large kingdom, though, would you?"

Nessa smiled friendly, her warm heart filled with compassion for the poor girl who seemed to be far away from home.
"You are lost? Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I am sure our shamans Leetah or Wild can help you. They are both very powerful."
She looked back at Midna with a gentle smile when she introduced herself. She had never heard about any Midna before. Link had told her very little about Hyrule, or his life before he met her.
"Midna? Oh, what a beautiful name. It goes with your beautiful face. I wouldn't be the least surprised if you were elected as a queen or a princess. You are very beautiful."

Now Midna was beginning to feel both guilty and slightly sick to her stomach. Honestly, who could be this sweet and caring all the time? She herself could show affection when she wanted to, but just as often was being pushy. "Yes, that's actually where I was headed now," she nodded, smiling, and stretched a little. Okay, she had to relax... "Thank you kindly," she chuckled, the hand that Nessa couldn't see clenching. "You're not bad, either." Speaking of which... "Oh, I heard someone mention your name and engagement," she said--seeing as they were conviently coming up beside an empty clearing. Her teeth clenched, but she forced herself to open them and ask, "Who's the lucky groom?"

Nessa smiled warmly and blushed when the other woman complimented her beauty. She didn't see the clenched hand.
"Awww. Thank you, you're kind to say so."
By the mentioning of her engagement she smiled warmly, blushing roses in her cheeks and stars in her eyes by thinking of Link. She had never felt so happy her entire life.
"Wow, I didn't know people were talking already. But yes, it is true. His name is Link, and he is from Hyrule. Or what it's called. I have never been there."

Midna just smiled at that, figuring it best not to say anything and seem even nicer.
If Nessa were to look, she would notice something flash in Midna's eyes; that should be her happiness! Okay, she couldn't take much more--she just had to do the reveal.
"Oh, Hyrule? I've been there...did he say what he does there? Or what he did?"

Nessa noticed something flash in Midna's eyes, but she didn't know what it was. Jealousy and hatred was not in Nessa's heart. She had always been generous and understanding.
"Nope, not a word. Guess it didn't mean that much to him."

Perhaps this was the downside of being so self-assured (usually); when she did form attachments, they were very strong indeed. And she didn't like anyone who disturbed them.
Hearing the words, though, she actually winced, staring in shock. "He...what? D-..didn't matter?" For a moment she merely stood, stunned. A tear ran slowly down her cheek, gray and pearlescent. Then, her face flushed fully, to an unhealthy red, and her breath was hitching. "Oh, I suppose it didn't! It's not like it was anything important, like the girl he showed love for! No-o-o! He's got you now!"

Nessa looked at the other woman, her warm heart filled with compassion.
"Oh, dear. I think there's a lot of things Link has never told me about."
Her voice was warm and gentle.
"Do you want to sit down? And maybe get something to drink?"

Midna was fully crying now; she couldn't hide it, and she tried to turn away, not sure if, after all, she really had the strength to fight after hearing that. The tone of Nessa's voice, though, surprised the Twili very much. She turned, slowly, astounded that the elf could show any sympathy in a matter like this. "Yeah, there c-certainly are..." For a moment it looked as though she was going to refuse the offer, but--no, she couldn't. Her shoulders slumped, and she nodded gently, dejectedly. "I...guess so...wanted to see him again...so close..." she mumbled, sniffling. As she did so, though, she wouldn't notice at first, but twilight peeled up off her like a veil, and she was back to her imp self. ((Kindness is another way to her heart. ))

((Good thing that Nessa is a very kind being. )) Nessa's warm heart filled with compassion. She did not raise an eyebrow or show any signs of disgust when Midna turned back into her imp form. Neither was there any mocking in Nessa's voice or in her eyes. She wrapped her arms around the imp, hugging her gently, trying to comfort her in her unhappiness. "Awwwww. It sounds like you need someone to talk to. I am here for you if you need a shoulder to cry on. What is it that he has forgotten to tell me? Is there anything I can do to help?"

This was doubly startling, considering the elf whom she'd encountered just before. For just a moment she wondered if Nessa was really serious, or just playing with her heart. That wasn't supposed to happenn...she was supposed to be the manipulative one. In a moment she noticed with a gasp that she changed back, and expected something--but a hug was not it. "Oh! I...well...I wouldn't mind..." she murmured, looking up and then at least accepting the hug. "Link...we...we did so much together...I saved him, he saved me...and at the end he gave me that look when I had to go...and now..." ((She'll like her a lot. ))

Nessa held the unhappy girl in her arms, stroking her hair gently. There was nothing manipulative in Nessa's heart. She was kind to everyone. Being given by her parents to the royal couple as a 4 year old, to become the queen's chamber maid, had taught her everything she needed to know about humility. And still, she was of noble blood, as her aristocratic title was Baroness, and hers was the richest family in all of Lorien. She continued speaking to the girl in her warm voice. "It seems like you were good friends. Why would Link leave behind a lovely girl like you?" Nessa saw through the illusion of the imp with the orange hair and the red eyes, and instead saw the girl behind. Nessa saw Midna for who she really was. And that girl was, in Nessa's opinion absolutely lovely. ((Nessa will like Midna a lot too ))

Midna was a little embarrassed to be held in this way, but it felt so nice she didn't really care now. This was an interesting trend; Link, Zelda, and now this woman...they'd all acted so selflessly. It was almost as if something was trying to give her a message.
For her own part, at least she'd have respect for having worked her way up to the throne; she didn't believe that a life of being fawned to adequately prepared one for duty. She didn't know her own parents, though.
"He...didn't leave me. I was forced to leave him for the safety of Hyrule, and the sake of my own realm," she managed, painfully, hoping to be understood. "At first...at first I just thought of using him, but...well." She sighed. "You want to hear the whole story?"
