*It had been a long and tiring day, and Mohinder had been unable to sleep on the plane, but he was too wired to sleep. Paris was so exciting, even after everywhere he'd been, and he wanted to explore straight away. He started with the Opera house. He refrained from gaping in awe, but only barely. The foyer's beauty was mesmerising, nothing like anything in New York. It reminded him faintly of the grand temples of home. He thought it apt enough; the Opera house as a temple of the Arts. He certainly felt that he sought sanctuary here.*

"This place is really boring, you know?" *Rachel said from above the ginormous staircase. She lazily made her way down.*
"Totally overrated if you ask me."

"Perhaps to you," he says with a small smile, "But it makes an impression on a newcomer. Familiarity breeds contempt. If I may ask, why do you come here if you don't like it?"

*Rachel frowned thoughtfully.*
"Yeeeah, didn't exactly choose to fall through a hole in the space-time continuum," *she said, laughing.*
*Angling her head, she looked at him.*
Guh! He's hotter in person.
"And acctually, I find familiarity comforting."

*he blinks* "Ah, I meant the Opera in particular. This - um, hole. Have many people fallen through it?"

*Rach sighed.*
"All the time. I think the same happened to you. Although I don't know how much quantum physics a geneticist like you would know," *she said with a smile.*

"Well, you'd be surprised at how did you know I was a geneticist? Have we met? Are you a mind reader? Are you in any way involved with the Company? Were you sent to recruit me or assassinate me? How much do I wish that those weren't valid questions?"

*Rach met his questions with a cool attitude.*
"I read all your books while I was interning at some genetics lab last summer. I just took care of the rat but I managed to pick up bits of info here and there. And I wasn't sent my anyone, especially the Company. They're just insane."

"Oh. Well, that's actually very flattering. I'm sorry about my reaction, but as I said, those are valid concerns these days. What did you think? Of the books, I mean?"

"I..." *Rach said, dragging out the word* "actually liked it-- I mean from a scientific stand point. Valid hypotheses supported by plausible research, but with my being a Calvinist, I have to say that I accept what you wrote as a theory only."

*he raised an eyebrow* My theories - and my father's - in particular, or Darwinism in general?

"The latter," *she said briefly.*
"Look, let's not start that argument."

((Look, I don't have a problem with that. I think differently, but you're entitled to your beliefs. I do, however, think that Mohinder would have a problem with it. Sorry.))
"Not..." he spluttered, "Not start that arguement? The argument between, as you put it yourself, 'valid hypotheses supported by plausible research' and pure conjecture supported by... what? Faith? A much-translated book written by human beings?" *He drew himself up, closed his eyes, and counted to ten mentally before continuing.* "No," he said, "You're right. There's no point in this. Let's just... talk about something else." *He seemed unable to meet Rachel's eyes.*
