"Wait...he was here? In Wayne Manor?" He wasn't expecting that.
"When?"

Shit.
"A few days ago."
*Lois put down her fork with a sigh.*
"I completely ruined lunch, didn't I?"

"No, it's all right," he said quickly.
"I'm just surprised Alfred never told me about it."
Actually, he was more than surprised--Alfred was never lax when it came to announcing guests.

"Well, he's usually seeing to so many thing at the same time. Maybe he forgot?"
*Lois let out a short laugh, as she remembered what happened.*
"He, uh, said you might be Batman--"

Bruce laughed.
"Me? Man, that guy has one hell of an imagination."
He shook his head.
"I'd say he'd be more likely to be a superhero than me."

"Well, he told me he'd have his assistant give me a call if--when it happens," *she said, unable to supressed a few chuckles.*
"Enough of Stark," *she said with a casual roll of the eyes.* "I wanted to ask if all of this ever gets to you. I mean, working with The Bat and knowing that people might make the connection can't help you get to sleep at night."

"Yes...enough of Stark."
His joking expression turned a bit more serious.
"It does get to me, at times." He said, entirely honest. "I'm always thinking...wondering...is it enough? Is Batman doing as much good as I think he is? Or am I fooling myself?"

*Lois quietly listened.*
"If there's anything I learned, it's that no matter what, it's never enough," *she said, sounding more nonchalant that she intended.*
"But every bit helps."

"That's what I'm hoping for--that every bit that gets done, helps in some way." He said with conviction.

*Lois smiled and stayed silent for a moment before speaking.*
"It's a shame the media doesn't get to see this side of you," *she said sincerely.*

"I do wish that sometimes, the sensationalist papers would do more...the Gotham City Times is a good paper, but some of their columnists..." He sighed, shaking his head.

*She wasn't going to deny it: she had read some insane stuff in the papers about him.*
"It's usually the editors," *she said, trying to sound supportive.* "They'll do anything to sell papers. Perry's actually one of the mild ones."

He gave Lois a wry smile, some of the somberness lifting.
"I've heard some stories...of course, I don't pay attention to gossip..."

"You're lucky you've got a choice. I'm surrounded by gossip 24/7," *she said with a laugh.*
"Well, not anymore but... I was."

"I can't imagine being stuck in a situation like that. How can you tell if anything is the truth?"
