Lux tossed in his fitful sleep, throwing an arm around one of Rainsong's legs.
"Stay," he mumbled.

Rainsong turned her head and looked at him. A soft expression lit in her eyes for a moment when she saw him like this. Then, without a word, she crawled back into bed, snuggling as close to Lux as she possibly could get. She caressed him gently, wondering if he would say more.

Alas, it was not the case, and Lux uttered not a single word more.
*SOME HOURS LATER*
Lux awoke groggily, sitting up in bed. He cast a glance at Rainsong beside him.

Rainsong was still asleep. The sun shone in through the window, shining on her golden hair. Her eyes were closed, and in her sleep, she looked like an angel.

Lux beamed pompously, recalling the events of the previous night. Silently, he swung his legs over the edge of the bed and padded across the room. With one hand on the door knob, he threw a furtive glance back at the sleeping Rainsong.
"Sleep well, Lady Rainsong."

Rainsong opened her eyes and looked at him, while he was standing there by the doorway. Remembering what he had said to her in his sleep, she repeated the word to him, softly.
"Stay."

Lux stiffened, wondering whether the girl had heard him speak in his sleep.
"I'm rather afraid I can't, Lady Rainsong," he declined.

Rainsong looked pleadingly up at him with a pout.
"Why not?"

"There are... more pressing matters to attend to," Lux smoothly lied. With that, he slipped out from the room and softly closed the door behind him.

Rainsong looked sadly after him. She knew he was lying. She could feel it. Certain that he didn't want anything to do with her anymore, she slipped into her clothes, and slipped quietly out of the room, in an attempt to return to her home.

And Lux knew.
Sighing with exasperation, he stormed down the hallway after Rainsong, asking, "Just where do you think you're going?"

Rainsong looked down, while tears were forming in her eyes.
"I thought...."

Lux remained silent, waiting for Rainsong to finish her statement.
"You thought...?" he restated as a question.

Rainsong blushed deeply and lowered her face, so he only could see her golden curls, falling down on her backside. A tear trickled down her cheek.
"I thought you never wanted to see me again...." she whispered. "Doesn't gentlemen usually kick out peasant girls when they are done with them?"

"You thought wrong," Lux rumbled. "They wouldn't exactly be gentlemen if they did that. Are you... crying?"
