Lux set Rainsong down on her feet and motioned for her to follow him into the edifice.
"A few steps won't kill you."

As soon as Lux sat Rainsong down on her feet, she tried to run away from him, terrified of the man and this new place.

"No, you don't," he growled. With a flick of his fingers, a thin chain materialized around Rainsong's ankle and connected around Lux's own wrist.
"You can have it the easy way or the hard way."

Rainsong whimpered in pain as the chain tightened around her ancle and stopped her from further escape. She felt crushed and humiliated. First her parents had sold her for a sack of gold, and now she was chained up like a dog. She turned her face from Lux in disgust.
"All the ways you chose are hard for me. You may have bought my body from my parents. But my heart is my own. And I will never give it to you."

"In due time, Lady Rainsong, your heart will belong to me."
Lux pulled roughly at the chain and forced her inside, leading her from the airy living room into a dim corridor and up a flight of heavily carpeted stairs. At the landing, he gestured to a burnished wooden door just beside him.
"This shall be your room."
His eyes clouded over in a crimson shade as his gaze fell upon Rainsong's injury.
"How does it feel?"

"You might command over anyone with your power and money, mylord. But you will never command over me. No matter how much money or power you have, you can't buy my love."
Rainsong was pulled inside the house and through an airy living room into a dim corridor and up a flight of heavily carpeted stairs. She noticed a burnished wooden door beside Lux. He spoke to her and told her it was her room. She silently hoped it was not his room as well. The mere thought made her shudder.
She watched anxiously when his eyes clouded in a crimson shade. But his question surprised her. She had thought he only thought about himself. She hadn't expected him to ask about her feelings. She looked down at the marks on her legs, the marks after the snake bite. The wounds hurt, and she was not feeling well. She felt nausea and dizzy. Against her will, she swooned.

Lux laughed, a harsh and unpleasant sound issuing from his throat.
"There is no need for such theatrics, Lady Rainsong." He crouched down and applied the lightest of touches upon the wound. It instantly closed up into a tight, small, pink scar.
"There. You are better, and you shall always bear a lasting reminder of this day."

Rainsong shuddered when she heard his laugh. It sounded so harsh and unpleasant.
"Lady is a title for ladies of higher ranks. I am a peasant girl, not a lady. And I never will be."
When he crouched down, she had to fight back an urge to kick him in order to escape. She silently reminded herself that she wouldn't get far with a snakebite infected leg. She turned her face in disgust when he touched her wound. She hated his touch, as much as she hated everything else with him. But she could not deny that he had managed to cure her.
"Thanks. I will never forget the day when I lost my freedom and was sold as a slave by my own parents, to the Master of Evil himself. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll like to retire to my room."
She passed him quickly and disappeared through the burnished wooden door just beside him. She closed the door behind her and locked it, hoping it would keep him away from her.

Lux laughed darkly to himself.
"You're right. There is certainly nothing lady-like about you," he addressed the closed door. He smirked, knowing full well that with one touch, the door would come crashing off its hinges to the ground. Nothing could keep him away.
"Good night, Lady Rainsong," he bid with a bow.

Rainsong heard Lux laugh darkly to himself. The sound made her shudder with a fear she had not been willing to admit in front of him. She heard him say there was nothing lady-like about her. Well, there was nothing gentlemanly about him either! She replied back, without opening the door.
"Good. Then you can send me back to my parents, and you are rid of me."
Somehow she knew he would not send her back. He had paid her parents a lot of money for her. The other peasant girls had told her that a gentleman would never pay for a girl without getting anything in return. Rainsong was afraid. She had no idea what that anything would be, but she didn't like the thought.
She looked around the room in panic. There was a window there. A bed, a nightstand, a table, a couple of chairs. The bed was made up. What if she tied the sheets and the blankets into a rope and escaped? She looked down at the small chain around her foot and sighed deeply.
He will pull me back in before I reach the ground... just like a fish.
"There won't be a good night for me...." she muttered darkly.

Lux strode off to his own room down the hall, and as he went, the chain between him and Rainsong elongated accordingly. He paused, one gloved hand resting on the door handle, to throw a glance back at the door behind which the girl presently took refuge.
"In due time, Lady Rainsong. In due time."
He sneered and silently entered his room.

Rainsong was still standing in the middle of the room, trying to think out a plan. There was no way she wanted to belong to this... this.... BRUTE!!! Even though he had not yet used physical violents towards her, she was certain he was capable of hitting a woman - if he only got angry enough. She frowned, and murmured under her breath.
"In due time, Lord Lux, I will have escaped! I will never be yours! Ever!"
She heard him continue down the hall, and looked down at the chain around her leg. Strangely enough it didn't tighten when he moved away, neither was she pulled toward the door. That could only mean the chain elongated accordingly when he moved away from her.
Could it also work if she tried to move away from him? Quickly she ran over to the bed, and started tying the sheet and blankets together. She made a strong rope out of them. Then she fastened the rope to her bedpost with a solid knot.
Determined to escape, Rainsong opened the window in her room and looked out. It was far down, but she had to get away. She would rather risk breaking her neck than getting married to that... that... TYRANT!
Her heart was beating as she threw out the loose end of her rope, and started climbing. She hoped silently that the chain would be long enough and that Lux wouldn't notice her escape.

She would have been heavily disappointed. The chain abruptly tightened and yanked violently upon Lux's wrist. Lifting a brow disdainfully, he slipped silently from his room and made his way to Rainsong's.
He shoved open the door to meet an open window and no Rainsong in immediate sight.
"Damn that girl," he growled furiously. Lux stormed over to the sill of the window.

Of course. She should have known. She didn't get far before the chain tightened, and she found herself hanging in loose air, right in the middle between her window and the ground. And the chain yanked so violently around her ankle, that she was certain Lux must have noticed her escape after all. He might be stupid, but he was not paralyzed.
She crossed her arms over her chest, her full lips in a heavy pout. No use holding on to the rope, the chain held her weight anyway. She was so disappointed she could cry. She had been so close....
Then she felt someone looking at her. She didn't need to look up to know that it was Lux standing by the windowsill. She was so certain she had locked the door to her room. How had he managed to get in? She had a feeling now was not the right moment to ask. From the look on his face, she knew she would be punished for this.

With a sigh, Lux unfastened the rope from the bedpost and effortlessly pulled at it, bringing Rainsong closer and closer to an incensed faerie knight.
