Sapphire merely blinked.
"Oh, well, that makes so much more sense." She rolled her eyes again; though she rather had to accept the evidence of her senses, that didn't mean she was going to think it any more likely. "A wolf. And you've got the power to appear human? Is this a fairy tale, or what?"

"A... fairy tale?" Kiba asked. He had no idea what that was, but it was evident that at least some wolves could appear human in this world.
"You know, you have NO concept of danger. I could kill you right now," he told her disapprovingly, dropping his illusion and taking a bite out of the rabbit's leg. But that would waste energy, and I've got the rabbit anyway, he added.

Sapphire didn't feel she had to explain herself to him, instead merely arching an eyebrow. No doubt he really was just a wolf, due to his apparent, astounding lack of culture.
"Yes, I'm sure you could," she replied, almost bored and still rather supercilious, not mentioning that she was prepared. "But what would that accomplish? You'd just be caught for it. Especially considering that I'm not just some random nobody--I am nobility, wolf."

A noble, he remarked, once more annoyed. That explains a lot.
It seriously did--even in a group, ordinary people had the sense to run away. Only a noble would have such conceit as to think their status carried over into the animal world.
Darcia had the insight to carry a gun around, he told her. He didn't USE it, but he had one.

Oh, she did think that, but one could hardly blame her, truly. It was really her upbringing that was what had caused her to get these ideas. At least, that's what she would have said if she were ever called out on it. "What makes you think I don't?" she replied simply--and removed from her purse an antique revolver. Yes, she'd had it the whole time.

I've been shot by bigger guns than that, he told her, taking off one of the rabbit's legs in his way of showing unconcern. Let's see how YOU like someone ignoring every warning you give them.

Sapphire was not pleased to see the rabbit dismembered, and shuddered just slightly, but just continued to give him 'the look' that said she felt she should be above all this nonsense anyway.
"Well, why should that bother me?" she remarked with a slight laugh. "I don't care if you ignore warnings; if someone tries anything, I respond with like force. It's not hard to grasp. Anyway, even if you have been shot before, there are several regions that would no doubt cause significant damage."

You know I can dodge things, right? I won't wait for you to take aim, Kiba informed her.
In fact, he was able to see someone's finger pull the trigger and hear the click that most guns made before the bullet even got out--only a second's notice for either one, but it was enough time for him to jump. The only things that prevented him from actually dodging was that he'd either been protecting someone or too busy attempting to kill the gun-wielder themselves.
Kiba started on the entrails of the rabbit, fully aware of the noble's disgust at having to watch him.

Her nose wrinkled, and she glanced away before replying. "Whatever. But even so," she added, "what in Heaven's name are you doing around here? I mean, besides hunting? Pardon me, but you don't look like any wolf I've seen in this part of the world."
She wasn't certain about his ability to dodge or not, but Sapphire was quite confident that she was safe. If he was going to kill her, he'd no doubt have done it already, probably when sneaking up on her.

I live here, he repeated. And I'm protecting someone.
It figured that he'd be the only white wolf here--the only pure white wolf, he amended. Both in species and color, if that werewolf he'd met near the opera was any indicator.

"Oh. I see. How long have you been here, then?" she asked, idly curious now, not quite wanting to ask whom he might be protecting yet.
Naturally, she hadn't seen any white wolves before. They were, after all, normally supposed to be only up in the Arctic regions, or so she'd heard.

I don't know... a week? However long five days is. I've just started guarding her, though.
He was looking for his pack, too, but he didn't feel the need to tell her that.

Sapphire shrugged slightly. "A little over a week, but not much. Er, someone...important to you, I assume?"
((I've been away...))

((That's okay.))
She reminds me of someone important, Kiba shifted uncertainly--it wasn't that he was secretly comparing Helen to Cheza. It was more that humans didn't like the idea of being too similar to others. I didn't have many options at the time; and really, she's not that hard to protect. The people looking for her haven't shown up yet.
By now he was almost done with the rabbit, having finished the entrails and fur and crunching through the remainder of its bones.

Frankly, though she didn't say it out loud (she did have some concept of tact, after all, self-preservation beside the point), Sapphire was surprised that a wolf was capable of such emotional depths. Evidently she'd been underestimating animals. "Ah. I see," she repeated, not quite certain of what to say, and awkwardly passing her revolver from hand to hand, keeping her eyes off his meal.
