Letting go at the crucial moment, so as to make it the kitten's kill, Carlos felt simultaneously proud and disgusted. The scent of blood was exciting, and yet he knew he'd want to vomit when he recalled this as a human. He sat back on his haunches and watched.

The kitteh struggled to hold onto the rat, which was nearly as big as she was, recoiling when it snapped at her. Then, quickly, she got it by the throat- a wonderful scene for Carlos to look back on when he was human again.
Serenely, the rat limp now, the kitteh gnawed on a haunch proudly.

Of course Carlos would be horrified, but the cat was very proud, and watched with all the satisfaction of a father at a son's first t-ball game. He flopped to the floor and purred his approval.

The kitteh abandoned the rat to bounce over, Carlos' obvious pride making her purr too. She pushed insistently against Carlos' side, more from an attempt to be playful than any real urgency, then flopped onto her belly, legs stretched out behind her as she continued to nuzzle his side.

Carlos carefully rolled her over with one big paw, wondering at the same time what the hell he was playing at. This wasn't his... kitten. Wasn't even Simon.
Still and all, Mephisto wouldn't play with him anymore.

One big paw which... the kitteh latched onto immediately, back feet whirling as she kicked at him, mouth wide in mock attack. She was having fun.

Carlos spun her gently. Oddly, the part of him that thought she was adorable was probably the man, responding as humans did to wide-eyed kitty play. It was so cute when they decided they were tigers. But it was the cat in him who purred.
He very much hoped the creature would not play upon his sensibilities and insist on coming home with him. He had enough to deal with.

The kitteh gnawed gently on the captured paw, staring up at Carlos as she did so. Abruptly she sprang to her feet, pounced on him, and then without stopping bounded off into the darkness, bottle-brush tail like a flag, and the last part visible before she disappeared completely.

Carlos let her go. She had seemed happy enough when she found him, and he wasn't about to go chasing off after every orphan who came into his path.
What an odd little creature.
Sighing, he resolved never to speak to Erik of this incident, as it suddenly seemed highly embarrassing.
