Presently, the white wolf calmed down enough to get bored with wandering around in the building. Sure it was large, and it was probably comfortable for most humans, but it was still enclosed and entirely barren.
Also, he'd barely met anyone--human or otherwise--and in spite of himself, he was starting to get lonely traversing the hallways like a lost dog.
Wait a minute... He stopped. I could have just howled to see if everyone was here. It's not like anything will attack me if I do.
He jumped onto a nearby table (disregarding whatever it was that fell down and broke) and howled once, which reverberated down the rest of the hallway and into the open rooms. After sorting out the echoes, he waited a moment before giving a louder, deeper howl.
Something's got to show up after that.
He got off the table, put up his human illusion and waited patiently as the echoes died down.

Devon's ears perked at the noise, and with pulse racing, he wondered whether it was the call of his own kind.
He shifted into his wolf shape and answered with a throaty, tremulous howl.

Kiba dropped the human disguise immediately, ears twitching as another wolf answered--certainly not an alpha since it was so high-pitched (and probably nervous since he'd been actively trying to intimidate whoever it was).
It's definitely not Toboe.
He gave a third howl, careful to make it less threatening while still retaining his usual deep tone.

Devon gave a series of short barks and set about searching for the owner of the howls.
He growled softly, impatient to reunite with a possible friend.

A pup? Kiba wondered as the other wolf barked several times. It didn't sound like a very young one (which was a relief)--more likely a yearling with lingering puppy instincts.
He sniffed the air a few times to pick up the other wolf's scent, heading farther down the hallway once he picked up the trail.

Devon did the same, and very soon, nearly crashed head-on into a particularly wiry, large wolf of grand appearance.
Instantly recognizing him as superior, he automatically cowered with tail between his legs.

It was lucky that the other wolf immediately took a submissive stance, because the suddenness of their encounter was more than enough to startle Kiba, and he did NOT like most surprises.
If this had turned out to be the other wolf's territory (not that he could think much of someone whose only territory was a human's creation), it might have ended badly for both of them.
Having been naturally dominant his entire life, Kiba had been carrying his tail quite high already, but what struck him about the other wolf was his oddly-patterned fur--it was white, much like his, only with black streaks. He'd never seen that before.
Even odder than his fur was the trace of human scent on him--not the residual kind meaning he'd had recent contact with humans, but mingled with his own scent as if he was some sort of hybrid... like...
Like Darcia.
A rumble emanated from his chest, more out of uncertainty than aggression. Darcia was dead anyway, and he could hardly consider this irritating place Paradise.
What are you? He asked.

Devon remained silent, however, gritting his teeth with such force that his fangs drew blood from his lower lip. His gaze obligingly remained upon the floor.
Would he dare answer with the truth?
"I am a... werewolf," he finally spoke aloud, shattering the cold, ominous silence in the hallway.

Werewolf? Kiba thought. It wasn't enough that he'd met a rotting-but-alive human in that underground place, but the wolves here weren't even pure wolves anymore?
If he'd gotten too close to that hallucination-bush in the desert again, Tsume had better be dragging his unconscious ass to a safe spot RIGHT NOW.
Okay, I have to ask. What's a werewolf?

"Half wolf, half human..." Devon clarified relucantly.
He sensed that Kiba seemed rather displeased and retreated some steps silently.

So he was like Darcia--but Kiba didn't like the implications of the half-wolf, half-human explanation.
The hybrid seemed apprehensive upon sensing his irritation, backing up a few steps. Kiba forced himself to calm down--he didn't seem happy about being a freak, so there wasn't much that the wolf could hold against him.
He thought a moment, then put up his human illusion since the werewolf was past being submissive and now only nervous.
"I'll ask more about that later," he sighed. "What's the way out of here?"

"Follow me, sir."
Devon bounded off in the direction from which he had come, morphing into a human in mid-air. He would pause every so often to ensure Kiba was following and eventually came to a halt beside a rather inconspicuously open door.
"Here we are."

"Thanks," Kiba told him, returning to his real form as he bounded past the door. Bye.
Finally--he was out of that building.

Devon held up a hand in farewell and headed off in the opposite direction.
