((First no bedroom, now no kitchen? What's wrong with me?))
*Rochester led Shadi downstairs quietly, giggling a bit like they were children that might get caught for such an indiscretion. Sneaking into his own kitchen, he grinned as he started blindly opening cabinets, looking for what they would need. He'd been in here, certainly, but not normally for cooking anything that required bowls and such.*

Shadi hopped up onto the counter to perch unsanitarily.
"Do you even know how to make waffles?"

*Rochester paused for a moment, as if the thought just occurred to him.*
"Well...I've never done it before, but how hard can it be? Just mix some flour and eggs and put the holes in..." *He started digging through pans again.*

Shadi giggled. She'd never made them, either, but she'd avidly watched cooks through windows when she was hungry.
"No, no, you need a waffle iron. It's a thing that puts the holes in. Maybe we should start with pancakes or something."

*Rochester's eyes widened, trying to figure out if he even had one of those irons. But then she offered a solution.*
"Pancakes." *He repeated with a decisive nod.* "Just the thing."
*He went back to digging for a moment before he looked back to her.*
"What do I need for those?" *He asked a bit helplessly.*

Shadi laughed, and launched herself off the counter.
"Hmm," she said. "Well, I guess you need... flour, and eggs, and... oil? Or is it butter? It shouldn't be too hard. It's like bread, only flat."
But she'd never made bread, either.

*Of course, neither had Rochester. He shrugged.*
"I like butter. So I think we should use that."
*He poked about the pantry and the very modern ice-box, procuring flour, butter, and eggs.*
"Sugar? Salt? Do those go in them too?" *He was trying to remember everything that he'd seen go into a pastry.* "Lard?"

"I like sugar," Shadi said happily. "And salt. Dunno about lard, though--does that go in bread?"

*Rochester shrugged, pulling the sugar and salt from the pantry.*
"I'm not sure. Maybe?"
*He looked at what they'd assembled.*
"Well, perhaps we should start with this and see how it goes."

Shadi nodded agreeably.
"How hard can it be?" she reasoned poorly.

"Precisely." *Rochester consented.*
"Here." *He handed her a large bowl he'd found. He continued to dig through drawers.*
"Spoon...spoon...Spoon!" *He exclaimed pulling an arbitrary one from the back of the drawer.*
"What's next?"

"Well... put the stuff in," she said. "Until it looks like batter."
She was fairly certain it was mostly flour, so she dumped a lot of it in.

*Rochester did his best to share the space with her as he tried to crack the eggs on the bowl. It was a lot harder than it looked and he spent a bit of time trying to fish shell pieces out of the flour.*

Shadi added ingredients in a haphazard fashion, with no plan at all, until it looked like there were enough things.
"Do you want to stir, or should I?"

"Um, you can." *Rochester decided, digging back into the cupboards.*
"We'll need a pan, right? Any idea what kind?"
