((We're going to have to fudge some of the technical stuff, as I've no idea what I'm talking about. I mean, I sing, and I've had lessons, just not, you know, from Erik. Nor am I that good.))
Out of the darkness came Erik's hands, suddenly, positioning Maleo differently and aligning his spine and head and feet. As quickly, they were gone, Erik's voice removed to a point he could not have been, given how close he had been a moment before.
"You must learn to breathe again," he said, neither impatient nor angry nor needlessly gentle. "Your facility with your upper register is commendable, but it is not the same instrument."
He ran Maleo through more exercises, correcting his posture, his breathing technique, his palate.

((That's okay. I've never been taught how to properly sing, only how to act, so you could tell me I need daisies up my nose and I'd probably believe you )) Maleo gave a light coo as he was suddenly grabbed by the darkness, feeling himself forced into a better position - a damnably healthy one, but he was willing to try anything to make it into full tenor. He had decided in the night that if Maestro were willing to be his new tutor as well, that he would see what each of them could bring him to accomplish - and which of the pair would stop. Would the Maestro enforce his cooperation with Castro, or would Angel make their rivalry all the more bitter? Either way, Maleo's situation had promise. He pressed himself further, able to get a bit lower before his voice went dry again on a deeper note.

"You cannot force it," Erik's words whispered from the dark. "I do not mean it cannot be done; merely that physically, pushing yourself will not work. Relax."
Erik ran him through some more exercises slowly, guiding him step by step, but stopped abruptly.
"That is enough. You cannot overtire your voice, or you will be no use to anyone. Practice what I have taught you; we will meet here again in two days' time."

Rubbing his throat - or choking himself, it was hard to tell in the dark - Maleo smiled weakly to the darkness. He had been up all night and needed to retire anyway - it was well into morning, and without rest, Marlow had warned, he would be incredibly weak.
"Thank you, Angel. I will keep myself well practiced, and rest my throat properly...." His gaze went blank for a moment - was blood soothing to the throat if warm?

"See that you do," Erik said, sounding almost prim. "I am investing time and hard-won knowledge in you, boy. I do not intend to see that investment squandered. You have not slept; I will not permit you to learn from me again, in such a state."

"I will rest, Angel... I promise you that..." he said with a drowsy nod of his head. "In two days, I will be much better rested," he promised, turning to brace himself on the wall. "...and I will feed myself too..." he groaned, feeling woozy as he started to head back.

Erik followed until Addams hit the daylit parts of the Opera, half curious and half concerned about the man's odd state.

He looked like a man on the brink of starvation - his cheeks were unnaturally hollow, and his skin was a ghostly shade of ivory. He clawed at the wall he held onto, staring ahead. However, he still seemed to be enjoying himself, even as he groaned and doubled over in pain.
((He's such a masochist. XD))

**NEXT LESSON**
Erik waited, in two days' time and after the cast list for "Faust" had gone up.

Maleo returned, better rested and had hunted out a little morsel, having left quite a mess since not having all of his "adult vampire" teeth in yet. But he was there, and that was what mattered.
Heading along the hall as normal, he looked back behind himself a couple times. He had the feeling like he was being followed, but never saw anyone in the dark. Maybe it was the paranoia of being caught, but this time it was an unpleasant feeling.
"Angel? Are you there?" he asked the shadows, a bit softer than normal.

Erik waited a moment before responding, studying the man. He looked healthier, though still otherworldly in some regard. And not confident.
"I am," he said softly. "Are you, senor? You seem... hunted."

"I have this gnawing sensation at the back of my mind, like I am being followed. Normally, I would like it if someone were stalking me, but this... does not seem right. Maybe my instincts fail me..." he muttered, bolstering himself. This was pointless, they had work to do, and paranoia did not settle well in the throat.
"I am ready, Angel, when you are."

Maleo's paranoia was not entirely unfounded. The Spaniard had, indeed, been followed, but at several feet behind. The fireman had seen Maleo skulking about the other day, and being alone in the cellars was dangerous anyway, even if Bryan did not believe the rumors.
Then again, when you're called "L'Revenant" because of such talk, and because you've got a face not even a mother could love... well, one tended to be a skeptic.
Pressed flat against the wall, Bryan had shut the lens over his glowing eye, and was now just listening to two voices he could hear ahead of him.

He wanted to be followed? Erik did not understand this man, who seemed slightly changed every time he saw him. Still, he would look into the situation--Maleo would not be harmed without Erik's consent while he was in Erik's domain. His own senses did not pick up Fury, distracted as they currently were with Maleo and the lesson ahead of them.
"It is not I who needs to be ready," he said a bit acerbically. "You look better rested. Let us see if it translates to better results."
Erik raised his violin, and launched into the exercises they had covered last lesson, expecting Maleo to fall in with him.

Maleo fell in as expected, following the music as taught, though his lower range still left quite a bit to be desired. He was unable to hit far beyond mid-tenor, and at one point he voice dried so badly, it caused him to start coughing and gagging.
Falling back against the wall, Maleo coughed against his arm until his lungs ceased turning against him and he smiled back into the darkness. "Oh, my apologies..." he said with a lopsided grin. Standing up again, he rubbed his neck a bit, trying to relax the straining muscles.
