"Funny. It's never taken her this long before to accomplish her missions or whatever they're called."
Christian tried to put on a sophisticated air but failed, finding himself twiddling his thumbs.

Well, please let me know when she gets back. *She nodded slightly, taking another sip of her wine and trying to smile naturally and act like this was not the most awkward situation ever. And doing a fairly good job of it!* Are you liking the country?

"Yes, yes. It's much more soothing and different than the city. I didn't expect to meet any acquaintances, let alone you and Monsieur Enjolras, here. Uh, do you like the country?"

Very much. It's so beautiful and calm here.

"Yes. Is this where you two met?"
Christian was having a difficult time staying composed. He expected at any moment to burst out crying or screaming at the top of his lungs. His hands itched to give Monsieur Enjolras a good one, square on the cheek. Instead, he kept his eyes on the china plate before him, hoping that the urge would eventually leave.

*She shook her head, smiling over at Enjolras adoringly.* No, we met in the city.

"I see."
Christian didn't think he could endure it any longer. The smiles, the longing glances that Bella gave to that Enjolras. But no! He must. He had to prove that he would not be made the fool. Instantly, his shoulders relaxed, and his demeanor changed.
Brushing back a few bangs of hair that had fallen in his face, he asked, "What were you two lovebirds doing that day?"

*She smiled brilliantly at her husband.* The day we met?

((Oh, must go! 'Night! ) "Yes." Christian cocked an eyebrow in curiosity. More than curiosity, actually. Jealousy.

*She smiled and Enjolras dazzlingly.* I was out for a walk, reading a letter from my mother. I dropped it and the wind caught it, and before I could start to chase after it he grabbed it and brought it back to me, and we ended up going for coffee. As I couldn't speak then, I'm not sure how interesting I was... *She giggled lightly* ...but I guess I was more interesting than I realized, because we agreed to meet and go to the Opera that night to see the new opera.

*He smiled sickeningly adorably at her.*
"You, darling, were most ridiculously interesting. Far more interesting than the opera, which made absolutely no sense. I'm all for modernist composers but the show was absolutely pointless." *He said, mirth in his eyes.* "I believe I remember it made you laugh?"

It did- that opera was so incerdibly strange! *She giggled* And then that night, I got my voice back.

Christian's heart sank into his stomach. That just made his day: humiliation and jealousy topped with guilt. The young man still couldn't believe that Bella had given up her voice to save him from Fate and Death. His fault for letting that happen, his fault for letting this happen.
Christian nodded half-heartedly. "Oh, I see."

And then- *She stopped. It would sound so weird, but she knew Christian would probably believe her- he'd seen Fate and Death, surely he could understand this?* And then, you got your life back, Enjolras, remember?

Christian somewhat smiled in understanding.
"So Death has nearly taken you away also, Monsieur Enjolras? And not just figuratively?"
